B.Sc Biochemistry Course: Biochemistry is a branch of science that mostly deals with the study of chemical processes in a living organism. The analysis is done on a molecular level and the purpose of this analysis is to get a better understanding of the chemical reactions that undertake inside any living organism. B.Sc Biochemistry is an interesting field that is a sub-discipline of biology, as well as chemistry. Further expansion in this field gives rise to the complexity of the structure of living organisms at the molecular levels.

The candidates working in the field of Biochemistry are known as biochemists. To master as a biochemist specialist, experience, focus, and determination play important roles. It is only after precise research and experiments that any major breakthrough can be made in this field. Another important highlight of this Biochemistry field is that it contributes significantly towards the better comprehension of the DNA structure.
There are several courses in Biochemistry that a candidate can choose if they want to make their career in Biochemistry. The courses offered in biochemistry are given below. Have a look.
Candidates can also opt for M.D in Biochemistry. However, an MBBS degree is required for that.
The study of Biochemistry also includes certain specialization fields which are as follows:
B.Sc Biochemistry is an undergraduate course that is of 3 years duration having 6 semesters. The eligibility criteria for this course is passing class 12th with a good percentage of marks from a recognized board. B.Sc Biochemistry course is designed in such a way that it should include a combination of two interrelated subjects of biology and chemistry having exposure to the theoretical and practical aspects. Successful graduates in this course have a wide range of job opportunities lined up in the relevant field.
Like all the undergraduate programs, B.Sc. Biochemistry is a 3 years course. Admission to the B.Sc Biochemistry is based on the marks scored in class 12th. The average tuition fee of some of the colleges in India for the entire course ranges between INR 36,000 to 1.5 Lakhs.
B.Sc biochemistry course helps the students to find ample job opportunities in the medical industry, research labs, pharmaceutical companies, agriculture, academic institutions, etc. Within these sectors, professionals can find job profiles like that of a Research Scientist, Clinical Researcher, Lecturer, Professor Etc.
In simple words, Biochemistry is the study of using Chemical processes and principles to deal with the biological process and living matter. Biochemistry is a branch of science dealing with chemistry that is applied to the study of living organisms and the atoms and molecules which comprise living organisms.
After completing the BSc in Biochemistry, candidates can go for M.Sc in Biochemistry and Ph.D. in Biochemistry, etc. The Biochemistry courses are available in universities such as the University of Delhi, Nagpur University, and Bangalore University, etc.
After completing the B.Sc Biochemistry course, candidates can join the teaching profession for courses like B.Sc or B.Tech Biotechnology Course. These courses have biochemistry as one of the major subjects. The Payscale of a B.Sc Biochemistry graduate varies based on the position, qualification, and experience.
Apart from this, candidates can set up one’s own biotech firms, diagnostic firms, or pharmaceutical companies.
Given below are some of the job opportunities for the graduates of Bachelor of Science B.Sc (Biochemistry):
The graduates can go for higher education in Master of Science (M.Sc) Biochemistry for further knowledge and more job scopes in the future.

The admission to the B.Sc Biochemistry course is generally done on a merit basis. Universities conduct the admission process to the program once the result of HSC examinations is declared. Application forms are available in the month of May and once the application process is complete, universities announce their respective cut off which is the minimum required percentage for getting admission to the course.
However, universities like Aligarh Muslim University conduct an entrance test for admission to the B.Sc Biochemistry. This entrance test is objective in nature and incorporates topics from subjects like Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics/Biology. Questions are from the 10+2 syllabus which analyzes a student’s proficiency in topics taught in their Higher Secondary School.
Admission to any reputed college for the B.Sc Biochemistry course is usually done on an entrance basis, which is conducted by the university itself. A significant consideration is given to the Class 12th results as well.
For a master’s degree, the selection is done on the entrance as well as a merit basis. Ph.D. in biochemistry offers a good salary. However, it is only possible if the biochemist is experienced and has a better skill set. Selection in the Ph.D. courses is through the qualification of entrance tests (For example, UGC-NET, CSIR, and GATE) and personal interviews.
Selection Process:
For universities offering admission on a merit basis, the main criteria for selection are marks scored in the best four subjects in the class 12th examination and fulfillment of the cut-off requirement.
For universities offering admission through the entrance exam, the selection is done on the basis of the performance in the entrance test and marks scored in 10+2. A balanced weightage is given to both the assessments to prepare a merit list for the selected candidates.
