How to Become a Pilot After 10th?
Students have only two options for applying pilot courses after 10th
- Students can complete their 10+2 schooling through a regular mode from (Physics, Maths, Chemistry) subject stream and wait for two years to be completed.
- Students can enroll in 10+2 schooling in the science stream (Physics, Maths, Chemistry) through an open mode from the National Institute of Open Schooling.
Through these two options, students will be eligible for applying to the pilot courses after the 10th.
For the students who want to do the pilot courses after the 10th, they have many options available for flying open schools. Many flying schools are providing education for the 10+2 after the 10th class.
So the students can send their application for admission to the school for completion of 12th. These schools have some requirements for the students to clear some selection stages like Pilot aptitude tests, Medical tests, etc.
There are two ways available for the students to become a pilot after 10th:
- Civil Aviation (Commercial Pilot/ Non-Military Aviation)
- Indian Defence Forces (Air Force)

Way 1: Civil Aviation (Commercial Pilot/Non-Military Aviation):

Steps to Become a Commercial Pilot:
These steps will lead you to become a commercial pilot after the 10th:
STEP 1
Get Admission in a Flying School - first, get yourself admitted in flying school then pursue B.Sc in Aviation. The admission procedure is as follows:
- Written examination - subjects for the written examination are Mathematics, Physics, General English, and Reasoning.
- Pilot aptitude test - under this test your aptitude in Air Navigation, Air Regulation, Aviation Meteorology, Engine Knowledge, and Aircraft Knowledge will be checked.
- DGCA medical examination and Personal interview - after giving a written exam and pilot aptitude test students get selected for the personal interview and DGCA medical examination. The medical examination is held by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation, Government of India.
STEP 2
Receive a Student Pilot License - after appearing in the entrance examination you’ll be eligible to receive a student pilot license. Under this, the Chief Instructor or the Directorate General of Civil Aviation representative will take an oral test at the school.
After receiving a student pilot license you will be allowed to get the flying training and allowed to take the flights off or small planes, the approval is given by the flying clubs of the country.
While completing your course, you should complete your flying hours (minimum 250 hours) then you will be able to apply for the commercial pilot license.

Eligibility Criteria for Commercial Pilot:
- Students must have completed 10+2 with science steam
- The minimum age for applying is 16 years
- A student has to submit a medical certificate, security clearance, and bank guarantee

Way 2: Indian Defence Forces (Airforce):

Steps to Become an Indian Airforce Pilot:
These steps will lead you to become an airforce pilot after the 10th :
- Written Examination: examination consists of the math-based and general ability exam which includes Physics, Chemistry, English, History, Current events, General knowledge, and Geography.
- Pilot Aptitude Test: this test is given only one time if you fail the test on the first attempt, then you will never be eligible to appear again for the flying branch. Written and machine test is taken under pilot aptitude test which evaluates the ability to read instruments, mental strength, and control of actions of an individual.
- SSB Interview: it consists of two stages:
- Stage 1: officer intelligence rating test, discussion test, and picture perception test.
- Stage 2: if any individual clears the first stage then only he is qualified for the second stage. Under this Psychologists conduct psychological tests, group tasks, and personal interviews.
- Medical Examination: Under this, they will examine your height, weight, and eyesight. NDA required a minimum height of 152cms with the corresponding weight. Eye vision has to be 6/6 in one eye and 6/9 in the other, correctable to 6/6 only for hypermetropia.
Eligibility Criteria for Indian Defence Force(NDA)
- Only male candidates can apply.
- The minimum age to apply is 16 ½ years and the maximum age is 17 years.
- Students must have cleared 10+2 with physics and mathematics.
- The final year of college students is also eligible to apply in NDA.
Pilot Courses After 10th Fees:
The pilot course fee depends on colleges, different colleges charge different fees from the student for the pilot course. 50 lakhs is charged by the Indira Gandhi Rashtriya Uran Academy for the Pilot Courses After 10th. Government Aviation Training Institute charges around 50 to 60 lakhs.
National Flight Training Institute charges around 10 lakhs. Pilot courses after 10th fees are different from institute to institute. So overall pilot course after 10th fee is 5 lakhs to 50 lakhs.
Those who can not afford the fee of the pilot course then they can go for the NDA exam and clear it. They will be trained free of cost and will get the amount of 50,000 to 60,000 per month after the training period.
Pilot Entrance Exam After 10th in India:
There is no such pilot entrance exam after 10th in India. Students have to complete the first 10+2 education qualification then only they will be eligible to give the entrance exam of the pilot.
