WHAT IS BSc ZOOLOGY?

This is a 3-year course that will enable an individual to receive more distinct and diverse education in the domain of Animals and its classification.

Zoology is the biological branch referring to the kingdom of animals which includes:

  • Structure
  • Embryology
  • Evolution
  • Classification
  • Habits & the distribution of all the other animals, both living & extinct.

The students must take up twenty-four papers or exams during the course. It helps the learners to have experience of both theory and practical knowledge. The zoology is more drawn towards new technology nowadays. Students may choose any specialization course in genetics, biotechnology, endocrinology, immunology, applied zoology, wildlife science, ecology after doing zoology and students will be eligible for all these advanced courses at most universities around the globe.

The university conducts both the internals and practical exams. Environmental Biology knowledge is indispensable in the world today and is integrated into the curriculum. In this course, the B.Sc Zoology subjects are carefully designed to provide the student with a thorough understanding of zoology. This course also helps students to shape their practical and scientific knowledge and skills.

B.Sc. Zoology: What is it About?

Zoology, which is also known as Animal Biology, is the biology branch that deals with both living and extinct animals,  & their interaction with their ecosystems. B.Sc Zoology course includes animals' structure, function, and behavior and elucidates general biological concepts through researching specific or experimentally tractable structures.

This course is well-structured with theory-based paper along with practical sessions to provide the students with hands-on experience and help in understanding scientific concepts in a better way.

B.Sc Zoology course Eligibility Criteria:

The minimum requirement of eligibility for a student to take a B.Sc.  Zoology admission is that the applicant must have studied physics, chemistry, and biology in class 12th. The applicant should also have achieved a sum of at least 50 percent marks in 10 + 2 exams. The Distance / Correspondence form of education does not have eligibility percentage criteria. Minimum eligibility for the B.Sc Zoology course is a qualified intermediate/10+2 in science (PCM or PCB) with a minimum of 50-55% aggregate marks to seek admission to any of the top or desired institutions. In order to secure admission, aspirants do need the minimum marks in the entrance exam administered by certain institutes.

Some notable entrance examinations to seek admission into the discipline of B.Sc Zoology are:

  • Orissa   University   of   Agriculture   and  Technology (OUAT)
  • Uttar Pradesh  - Combined Agriculture Technology -  EntranceTest (UPCATET)
  • Grade   Six   Achievement   Test   (GSAT)

B.Sc. Zoology: Admission Process

The admissions are based on the University or College cut-off report prepared. The major admission procedure is merit-based only. Some universities such as Banaras Hindu University  carry out their Undergraduate Entrance Test (UET). The process begins in May month. The first step is to fill out the admission form appropriately. Based on the organization it can be performed online or offline.

After the students have filled out the application forms, most colleges and universities announce cut off lists. If the student's aggregate percentage in the Class XII exam exceeds the College's cut-off criteria, admission based on the merit list shall be given to him/her. Admission to the B.Sc Zoology program generally occurs by both entry and merit-based exams. Many colleges offer direct admission to the program, as well as enrollment based on eligibility exams. Nonetheless, few universities allow candidates to have qualified any of the B.Sc Entrance Exams available.

Candidates applying for the B.Sc zoology program should already have their results from the respective Entrance Exams, required by the selected or opted universities beforehand. Applications for admissions may be obtained either from the website of the University or by visiting the Admissions Office of the same. Candidates are recommended to look at the list of B.Sc Zoology Entrance Exams for various universities. Candidates must also assure that they qualify with the Education Eligibility criteria with the minimum marks required.

B.Sc Zoology Course Lateral Entry:

The students are given lateral entry by universities like Annamalai University. Candidates who have passed from a recognized university, the first-year examination of the same, and where the B.Sc Zoology syllabus taught is common to that of the university with at least 75 percent similarity, can be admitted to the second or the third year of the same degree course. Many who have completed an Undergraduate or Postgraduate program and have not successfully completed the exams would not be considered as qualified candidates for admission under the Lateral Entry Scheme.

B.Sc Zoology Distance Education:

It is also possible to grant zoology education via distance education mode. In India, there are a huge number of colleges and universities that are providing bona fide education in zoology by mode of distance or correspondence. Students have to ensure the validity of the course they are pursuing and the medium of distance or correspondence from the college.
