Most of the colleges take admissions on the basis of merit list, while on the other hand, there are some colleges that conduct Entrance examinations to offer the seats only to the most deserving candidates. These colleges have a limited no. of seats in the courses.
Usually, a Diploma in Interior Design Course is 1 year or 2 years long, But many colleges offer a 3-year Diploma Programme to ease the learning of the students by providing them with extended knowledge about the prospects of Interior Designing.
The Curriculum of the course remains the same, no matter what the duration is, but the practical sessions and examination structure gets altered, it entirely depends on the duration of the course.
In most colleges, admission is based on the merit list, the CGPA, or the percentage obtained by the student in Class 10th or 12th. Some government and private institutes also conduct entrance examinations to assess the knowledge and skills of the students.
The applicant must score the qualifying marks in the entrance examinations in order to get admission. The qualifying marks are set by the exam authority depending on the category of the applicants, most of the colleges and institutes follow the Government policy for reserved categories.

To apply online, you can visit the official website of the college, Register yourself on the website, Click on the application form option, and pay the application fee using any online mode like net banking, Credit Card, or Debit Card. Fill in the necessary details like Name, Date of Birth, Contact no. etc and upload your documents like 10th, 12th marksheet, Migration certificate, Passport Size Photograph, Aadhar Card, etc in the required format (JPEG, JPG or PDF). Click On Submit.
After completion of the application process, reach out for the counseling round and attend the personal interview round to get into your desired college.
There are various Entrance Examinations conducted by the Specialised Design Colleges to provide the seats only to deserving candidates, So they filter out the applicants by setting a few criteria and Conducting entrance examinations and Personal Interview rounds. 4 of the most popular Entrance examinations related to Designing courses are given below:
NID Entrance Exam: This exam is conducted by the National Institute of Design. Any student who has passed their 12th examinations from a recognized board or is going to appear in the 12th examination can give this entrance.
MET: This Entrance is conducted by the Manipal Academy of Higher Education. The eligibility Criteria to appear in this exam are determined by the university.
SOFT CET: This Entrance Examination is conducted by the School of Fashion and Technology, and an aggregate of 50-60 percent marks in 10+2 from a recognized board is required to appear in the SOFT CET entrance.
BHU UET: It is a university-level examination conducted by Banaras Hindu University, Students who passed out their higher secondary examination are eligible to apply for BHU UET. The minimum criteria to apply for this examination is a minimum of 50% in any stream and the age criteria are maximum of 23 years.
