The Maharaja of Travancore Sree Chithira Thirunal Balarama Varma established the College of Engineering, Thiruvananthapuram in1939. CET was the first Engineering college in Travancore State. College of Engineering is affiliated with the University of Kerala and the college architectural department is affiliated with APJ Abdul Kalam Technological University, Thiruvananthapuram. The College of Engineering, Thiruvananthapuram was approved by AICTE and accredited by NBA.
The College of Engineering offers various undergraduate and postgraduate courses in engineering, architecture, management, and computer application. The college offers 68 courses. Bachelor of Technology courses in mechanical, civil, computer science, industrial engineering, electrical and electronics, instrumentations, applied electronics, electrical, and communications. Masters in Technology in more than 25 streams like propulsion, thermal, structural, geotechnical engineering, etc. the college of Engineering provides the best B.Arch course in the country.
Apart from these, CET also provides courses like B.Tech, M.Tech, MBA, MCA, M.Arch, and M.Plan for the students. Students can get admission to the college after qualifying for the respective entrance examination and get eligible for the courses. The college also facilitates a Ph.D. degree in civil, mechanical, computer science, electrical, architecture, business administration, electronica, and communication engineering from Kerala University and Kerala Technological University.
The College of Engineering stands at the number of 85 in the NIRF rankings 2025. It is one of the top hundred engineering colleges in India. It is spread over 125 acres and has an exceptional infrastructure with well-furnished classrooms, wi-fi facility, technical library, central computer facility, separate hostel facility for both boys and girls, sports facility, laboratories, cafeteria for students and staff.
