M Tech Electrical Engineering: It has different extensions like electronics, power generation, telecommunication, instrumentation, etc. So, a professional in this field can make a successful career. Because of this, the demand for the M.Tech Electrical Engineering Course has increased. A Postgraduate has specialization in this field which makes him more valuable to the industry.
It is a PG course where you will learn about the design and application of electrical equipment and systems. You will learn various principles related to the field of electrical engineering and electromagnetism. After graduation, you have two options.
You can start earning money through a job or business or you can apply for Post-graduation courses to attain specialization. In both cases, you are building your career. However, a post-graduation course helps you in getting a promotion quickly.
It is also related to other fields like telecommunication, instrumentation, power generation, etc. These fields are interrelated to each other. So, a disciple of electrical engineering can make his career in different related fields.
After M.Tech, you will have more specific knowledge of the field which increases your chances of success.
Generally, the institutions which conduct the Bachelor’s course also provide a master’s course. No institution provides a Master’s course only. If you want to apply for this course, you should check the colleges which provide BTech Electrical Engineering courses.
Now, you can also choose an integrated program in which you can get a bachelor’s and a master’s degree in a single program. The duration of an integrated program is less than the individual duration. Like B.Tech+M.Tech in 5 years.
Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) is a national-level competition exam conducted by the Indian Institutes of Technology (IIT) and the Indian Institutes of Science (IIS). You can get admission to one of the best colleges in India through this exam.
But, to crack this exam, you must have a deep knowledge of all the concepts of the BTech Course. Most private universities take direct admission or through the entrance exam conducted them. The fee structure of these universities is comparatively high. However, they have good teaching staff and placement records.
For all institutions which consider the GATE score, the eligibility for the M.Tech electrical engineering course remains the same.
MTech Electrical Engineering Course duration is 2 years but in an integrated program, its duration remains only one year. The fee structure of M.Tech is different for different colleges but for most colleges, the tuition fees are around 60,000 to 70,000 pa.
The Top M.Tech Colleges consider a valid GATE score. You will only get admission when you meet this requirement. However, some institutes don’t make the GATE score compulsory for admission to M.Tech.
It is a specialization course, you should only choose a college which provides you with a good knowledge of the subjects and have a better placement record.
If you don’t get sufficient marks in the GATE exam, you can get into a good college.
There is a list of some of the best colleges which provide M.Tech Electrical Engineering at affordable fees:
College Name | Fees Structure |
Swami Vivekanand Subharti University, Meerut | 180600 Rs. for 2 Years |
Rama University, Kanpur | 1,50,000 Rs. for 2 Years |
J P Institute of Engineering and Technology, Meerut | 1,52,154 Rs. for 2 Years |
Sachdeva Institute of Technology, Mathura | 1,48,000 Rs. for 2 Years |
Bharat Institute of Technology, Meerut | 1,86,800 Rs. for 2 Years |
United Group of Institutions, Allahabad | 1,91,350 Rs. for 2 Years |
Amity University, Lucknow | 3,03,000 Rs. for 2 Years |
Shree Ganpati Institute of Technology, Ghaziabad | 1,86,000 Rs. for 2 Years |
IEC Group of Institutions, Greater Noida | 1,93,752 Rs. for 2 Years |
IIMT Group of Colleges, Greater Noida | 1,31,000 Rs. for 2 Years |
The syllabus of different institutions are different but the core subjects remain the same while the other subject may vary. The following are the general subjects of the M.Tech Electrical Engineering Course. It gives you an idea of the main subjects of Electrical engineering.
1st Semester | 2nd Semester |
Advanced Engineering Mathematics | Protection of Power system and Devices |
Microprocessor and computers | Power System Networking and Management |
Advanced Control System | Measurement and Instrumentation |
Power System | - |
Electromechanical Devices | - |
3rd Semester | 4th Semester |
Modelling Simulation and Evolutionary Technique | Major project work |
Elective | Practical subjects |
As we have already mentioned earlier, the scope of the M.Tech Electrical Engineering Course is high because its applications are not only limited to the Electrical segment but also Electronic and communication, instrumentation, eCommerce, internet, etc.
Some of the extensions of electrical engineering are as follows:
➥ Electronics: Electronic Engineering is a subfield of Electrical Engineering. It contains the study of principles to design and test the electronic components like resistors, transistors, capacitors, inductors, etc.
You will learn how to use these components in various devices and what their functions are. Electronic devices are used in every sector. And every piece of equipment is composed of these electronic components. So, a skilled professional is in high demand.
➥ Telecommunication: Telecommunication is related to the transmission of information through various mediums like optical fiber, and, wireless. To transmit a signal it must be encoded into a form suitable for transmission, this process is called modulation.
Today, wireless communication is of utmost importance because it is required in different organizations to transmit information. So, anyone with good knowledge and skills can easily make his career in this field.
➥ Computers: Special purpose computers are designed for industrial purposes. These are required to control robots in the manufacturing industries, and to perform some kind of calculations in the Research and Development department of any organization.
Various principles of Electrical engineering are used in the designing of such computers. So, it is also an extension of Electrical engineering.
➥ Power Engineering: Power engineering is related to the generation, transmission, and distribution of electrical engineering. It requires the principle of electrical engineering.
It also includes studying and designing electrical devices like motors, generators, transformers, etc. Power generation is required in many private and government organizations.
A Postgraduate student is eligible for different job roles these are as follows:
The salary of an electrical engineer depends upon several factors. All these factors remain the same no matter which field you are working in. A growing sector has good career opportunities. There are different job roles in that field.
The scope of the M.Tech electrical engineering course is good, indicating that it gives more employment and salary packages to its employer. If an engineer is working in an MNC, he will definitely get more salary than a person who is working in a small company. MNCs have their branches in different countries which increases their market.
So, it is obvious that an MNC has a great turnover. A portion of this benefit is given to employers. Hence, they get a good salary package. The salary package also depends upon the experience and skills of a person.
Skills are the ability to do the work efficiently which defines your productivity. And, experience indicates how well you know your job profile and the industry. More experience means more knowledge.
Also, with experience, you will become more skilled So, it is obvious for an experienced and skillful person to get a higher salary than a fresher.
Your salary also depends upon the job post you are on. After an MTech Electrical Engineering Course, you will become eligible for a higher job profile. And a higher job profile means higher responsibilities.
An employer is responsible only for his work. But a supervisor is responsible for the work of all employers under him. Obviously, he will get more salary than an employer.
