Masters of Philosophy (M.Phil) Course

Masters of Philosophy is a 2-year postgraduate philosophy course studies by the aspiring aspirants. Philosophy is a learning of the fundamental nature of knowledge, reality and existence. The course includes a comprehensive philosophical dogma which helps scholars to understand and aptly comprehend the world around them. M.Phil course involves the study of a critical and systematic approach to intellectual culture, wisdom and a search for knowledge. Philosophy is traditionally divided into three major branches

Natural Philosophy: it deals with the study of the physical world.

Moral Philosophy: in this aspirants study about goodness, right and wrong, beauty, justice and virtue.

Metaphysical Philosophy: The study of existence, causation, God, logic, forms and other abstract objects are taught.

Duration of M.Phil Course:-

The span of M.Phil course is 2 academic years which is divided into 4 semesters. The semesters thus divided into a combination of theory classes, seminars, talks and various independent research work conducted by the learners.

Eligibility Criteria:
  • The basic eligibility criterion for pursuing M.Phil degree is having a graduation diploma in any stream. However, many of the reputed universities demand graduation degree with Honours in Philosophy or Philosophy as one of the subjects studied in graduation from any of the recognized university/colleges of the country for admission to M(Philosophy) degree course.
  • Some of the very renowned universities demand a minimum of 45-50% marks in graduation as qualifying criteria to secure admission in this course and some also conduct entrance examination to get admission to their M.Phil degree course.
  • Selection to the course in colleges is based on marks secured in the final merit i.e. total marks aggregated in the final exams of graduation and in the entrance exam.
Admission Procedure:

When one applies for M.A. Philosophy admission, he shall have to submit the following things:

  • Prescribed Fees
  • Transfer Certificate (if applicable)
  • Eligibility Certificate
  • Statement of marks, degree certificate, with attested photocopy of each

The admission to the course is through an entrance exam which is conducted by various universities/colleges across the country. The entrance test is conducted to evaluate the student’s basic knowledge about philosophy.

Selection Process for M.Phil

The aspirants are selected through their performance in the entrance exam. Once the candidate clears the optimum requirement of the entrance exam, then they will be called for a counselling where they are granted admission by the institute taking the aggregate marks scored by them in the undergraduate course in consideration.
