Master of Architecture [M.Arch] Course

Master of Architecture is a postgraduate degree with a duration of two years. M. Arch is a stream of engineering course which deals with the art of designing and constructing buildings. The course is divided into four semesters. It may vary from institute to institute. This course can be pursued through correspondence or distance education. M. Arch course provide specialisation in one’s chosen line. It is not involved in just buildings, also involved in designing a variety of environments like Garden, Parks and Theme Parks etc. for each architectural environment there is a specialist, thus we have Green Architect, Landscape Architect, Museum Architect, Theatre Architect Naval Architect and many more. The minimum eligibility for pursuing this course is an undergraduate degree in Architecture with minimum aggregate marks of 50%, completed from a recognized institution.

Eligibility Criteria of M.Arch
  • Candidates who have a Bachelor’s degree in with Architecture specialisation are eligible for M. Arch Degree course. Candidates who are appearing for the final exams of B.Arch can also apply.
  • Those eligible candidates need to secure minimum of 50% marks at their graduate level or 10+2 level.
  • To get admission in top colleges students are required to give national and state level entrance examination
  • Some colleges conduct their own entrance exams to enter college.
Admission Procedure-

Admission to M. Arch course is based on the candidate’s performance in a relevant entrance examination, such as  CEED, GATE, TANCET and many more. Here we have listed below some such exams with their details.

  • GATE- Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering is a national level exam which is conducted jointly by IITs and the Indian Institute of Science. The minimum eligibility to take the test is graduation.
  • CEED- Common Entrance Examination for Design is also conducted jointly by the Indian Institute of Science and IITs. The minimum eligibility for this test is graduation in design, fine arts, or engineering from a recognized institution. The syllabus of the CEED exam comprises questions related to design and general awareness, visual design, sketching, observation, design thinking ability, visual communication design etc. An interview is the last stage of admission process. Also, there are some colleges and universities that offer direct admission too.
