BPT Course:

Bachelor of Physiotherapy or BPT Course duration is 4 years plus 6 months of compulsory clinical internship. It is an undergraduate academic course in the field of Medical Science known as physiotherapy, which requires students to gain a heavy amount of practical training. Physiotherapy involves the science behind physical movements of the body with the aim of preventing diseases and disabilities in the human form such as asthma, Parkinson’s disease, chronic heart disease, stroke, fibrosis, pelvic issues, sports injuries, etc.

Physiotherapists or physios are often referred to as “movement specialists” since they are trained to diagnose and assess various underlying physical conditions through body movements. 

The main aim of physiotherapy and expert physiotherapists alike is to improve the physical fitness of the patients and their clients through the use of appropriate physical exercises and massages. However, this course also equips students to possess skills and knowledge based on scientific techniques, such as electrotherapy, shockwave mobility, etc to treat their patients.

BPT Course Eligibility Criteria:

  • Candidates must have passed their 10+2 board exam from a recognized educational board.
  • The candidate should have studied subjects of the Science Stream, namely Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and English as main subjects.
  • The candidate must have scored a minimum of 50% aggregate marks in their 2nd board exam. For SC/ST/OBC candidates, a minimum of 45% aggregate marks is required. 

BPT Course Admission Process:

The BPT Course Admission process is different for different institutions and colleges or universities. However, the basic procedure for admission into the nursing course as followed by different educational bodies are as follows. The general procedure for admission to BPT Course Top Colleges requires the candidate to appear for an entrance exam, followed by two rounds of the conference (group discussion) and private interview.

Candidates must have passed their 10+2 with an aggregate of 50% marks in Physics, Chemistry, and Biology.

Note: There is no BPT specific AIIMS, NEET entrance exam. AIIMS does not conduct an entrance exam for BPT admissions.

BPT Course Syllabus Semester 7 and 8:

Students are given the choice of completing their internship in the last year for the two semesters. Students complete their internship requirement in the last two semesters. 

The basic and brief topics covered above are taught over by the universities and colleges alike. However, slight changes and even mode of instruction can vary from place to place. Apart from this, many universities and colleges also provide distance learning options for students who wish to pursue this course. Usually, the time frame for BPT Course Distance Learning is around a year. Due to this, it is less costly than the traditional BPT Course, with the average fee ranging from Rs. 25,000 to Rs. 60,000.

At the end of the semesters, students are examined and graded as per their level of achievement in the theory and practical paper. They also have to appear for a 30 marks viva voce and 80 marks theoretical paper, after which they become eligible to pass on to the next semester. The internship at the end of the year, mainly the fourth year is done on a rotational basis covering various clinical branches of ICU, Neurology, Orthopaedics, General Medicines, General Surgery, Obstetrics, Gynaecology, Neurosurgery Paediatrics, including both in-patient and out-patient services, etc. 

To gain the internship certificate, candidates need to appear and complete the entire six months of the internship period and will not be awarded the degree certificate without it. Also, only candidates that have passed all the subjects before, can appear for the internships.
