WBPRB Exam 2026 Information

 

During the British Raj, the Police Act of 1861 led to a reorganization of the West Bengal Police. With the Home (Police) Department reporting to the State Government, it is led by an officer designated as the Director General of Police. Except for the metropolis of Kolkata, which is one of the two general police districts of West Bengal established by the Police Act of 1861, the twenty-two revenue districts of the State are under the jurisdiction of the West Bengal Police. 

The West Bengal Police Recruitment Board will use contemporary technology in a fair, unbiased, transparent, objective, and merit-based recruitment process to choose candidates who are most qualified for the position. 

At first, the Board's only authority was to hire new Constables, Sub-Inspectors, and Lady Sub-Inspectors for the West Bengal Police. Subsequently, the government took over hiring duties for the positions of Lady Constables, 

Constables, Sub-Inspectors, and Sergeants in the Kolkata Police, as well as Wireless Supervisors, Wireless Operators, and other uniformed services like the Department of Excise, Correctional Administration, Forestry, Disaster Management, and Civil Defense.

Probation Period 

The WB Police Constables serve a two-year probationary period during which their productivity and effectiveness are evaluated. They receive solely the in-hand salary during this time. They receive all extra benefits and allowances following their successful completion of the probationary period.
