UGC NET Entrance Exam 2024-25

UGC NET Exam 2024: The UGC NET entrance exam 2024 is a national-level entrance exam conducted by the National Testing Agency twice a year. UGC-NET Exam 2024 is conducted to test the eligibility of the candidates for the post of "Assistant Professor" and "Junior Research Fellowship & Assistant Professor" in UGC-recognized universities and colleges located across India. Candidates who want to build a career in the research field or are interested in becoming lecturers and professors can take this exam. This exam is a gateway to pursuing a successful career in academic research and teaching.

UGC NET 2024- Exam Overview:

UGC NET Exam is held in two sessions. This year also, the exam will be held in two sessions- the June Session and the December Session. However this year, UGC has merged the December 2023 session and June 2024 sessions as the December 2023 cycle of the UGC NET exam was affected due to the COVID-19 outbreak. Hence the December 2023 session and June 2024 session of UGC NET will be held in two phases -  Phase 1 will be held on 9th July 2024, 11 July 2024, and 12th July 2024. UGC NET Phase II will be held from 20th September 2024 to 30th September 2024. 

University Grants Commission will soon release the UGC NET Datesheet 2024 for the Phase-II exam which is going to be held in September. The conducting authority will also release a city intimation list on 11 September 2024. This list will comprise the details regarding the exam city centers allocated to the candidates, The UGC NET 2024 admit card will be released on 16 September 2024. 

UGC NET Full Form: UGC NET Full form is the University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test. Earlier this exam was conducted by CBSE (Central Board of Secondary Education) but in December 2018, the conducting authority was revoked, and given to the National Testing Agency. 

UGC NET 2024- Mode of Exam: The NTA UGC NET Entrance Exam is going to be held online mode. It is a Computer-based test that is comprised of two papers - Paper 1 & Paper II.  The candidates have to visit the allocated examination center where they will be provided with the computers to appear in the NTA UGC NET Exam 2024.

UGC NET Eligibility Criteria:

To appear in the UGC NET Exam 2024/ NTA NET Exam 2024, candidates have to fulfill the UGC NET Eligibility criteria 2024 which are as follows:

  • Nationality: Indian Nationals 
  • Age Limit: No upper age limit for Assistant Professor post.Maximum 31 years for General category candidates applying for Junior Research Fellowship. Age relaxation of 5 years will be given to Candidates possessing some research experience. candidates who served in the Armed forces and SC/ST/OBC/PwD/Transgender candidates and 3 years of relaxation for LLM Graduate candidates.
  • Education Qualification: Minimum 55% marks in Postgraduation and postgraduation must be done in a subject that is relevant to your UGC NET subject choice. Candidates currently pursuing their postgraduation can also appear in UGC NET 2024 however they have to complete their course within 2 years after the result date. Please note that CA/CS/ICWAI candidates are also eligible to appear in the UGC NET exam.

UGC NET 2024 Subjects:

This year, the UGC NET 2024 is going to be held for 82 subjects. In 2024, this exam was held for 81 subjects but this year University Grants Commission has introduced a new subject named “Hindu Studies” as one of the 82 subjects included in the list of UGC NET 2024 subjects. The subject code of this newly introduced study field is “102”.

  • Get Teaching Jobs in Renowned Institutions: Candidates who pass the UGC NET Entrance exam for the post of assistant professor can pursue a career in lectureship. They may teach in a government-owned college/university or a private one. As a UGC-NET qualifier, you may explore various opportunities to teach at the top institutes in India and apply for the Assistant Professor post through their valid UGC-NET Scorecard. 
  • Pursue Research & also get a Fellowship: Candidates can also pursue research after clearing UGC NET JRF. Candidates can choose their institute from NET coordinating institutions and enroll in a Ph.D. degree. After qualifying NET JRF and enrolling for a Ph.D., they will be awarded a 5-year fellowship (scholarship) from the government. The remuneration of this fellowship will be Rs. 31,000 per month + HRA (availability of HRA depends on the institute) for the initial two years and Rs 35,000 per month + HRA for the next three years.
