UGC NET Application 2024: The last date to fill  UGC NET Application Form 2024 for June Session was 30th May 2024. Candidates who are awaiting for National Testing Agency to begin the UGC NET Application process for December Session might have to wait for a while as it is expected to commence in October 2024. UGC NET 2024 released an Information Brochure that contains all the details about the eligibility requirements that need to be met by the candidate to appear for the exam.  

Candidates are strictly advised to check the UGC NET Eligibility Criteria before starting their application process. Below we have mentioned the details of the eligibility criteria for the UGC NET Exam 2024. 

UGC NEt Exam Application Form 2024

UGC NET Eligibility Criteria:

UGC NET entrance exam is conducted by NTA twice a year to shortlist the eligible students for the posts of Assistant Professor or both Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) and Assistant Professor post in the UGC-recognized universities and colleges. Candidates who wish to pursue a career in the research field or want to teach in universities/colleges can appear in this exam. However, there are certain parameters which are needed to be met by all the applicants. In this article, we are going to discuss UGC NET Eligibility Criteria 2024. 

Before applying for UGC NET 2024, Candidates should ensure that they fulfill all the UGC NET Eligibility Criteria. Any failure to do so will be subject to the rejection of the application submitted by the candidates. The UGC NET eligibility criteria include various parameters including the candidate's nationality, Age and Education Qualification. If you look forward to appearing in the exam, you must fulfill the given eligibility criteria for UGC NET Exam:

Nationality: The applicant must be an Indian National. UGC NET Exam 2024 is conducted to determine the eligibility of the candidates for Assistant Professorship and Junior Research Fellowship Programmes for various Indian institutions, henceforth the candidates must be Indian National. 

UGC NET Age Limit:

The candidates also have to fulfill the UGC NET Age Limit Criteria. Please note that the candidates belonging to the reserved category will get some relaxation on the age limit. 

Below we have mentioned the UGC NET Age Limit Criteria 2024, please have a look:

(i) There is no upper age limit for applying for Assistant Professor through the UGC NET exam.

(ii) For UGC NET JRF, General category candidates must be aged 31 years or below. Their age shall not exceed 31 years. However, in some cases, the candidates are provided with some relaxation on age. Please refer to the table below:

UGC NET Educational Qualification:

(i) General category candidates who have completed their Master's (postgraduation degree) with minimum 55% marks in the concerned subject or any equivalent exam from a UGC recognized institute/university are eligible to apply for UGC NET Exam 2024. 

(ii) Candidates who belong to the SC, ST, PwD or Transgender category and have obtained a minimum of 50% marks in their Master's degree (Postgraduation) in the concerned subject or any equivalent exam from a UGC-recognized institute/university are eligible to appear in the NET Exam. 

(iii) Candidates who are currently pursuing their Master's degree (postgraduation course) or have appeared in the qualifying exam of their PG course are also eligible to appear in UGC NET Exam 2024. However, the condition is that they must complete their PG course within 2 years from the result declaration date of the UGC NET Exam. Please note that such candidates will be granted provisional allotment only and eligibility for Assistant Professorship will be granted only when they will complete their postgraduation with the minimum marks required as per UGC NET Eligibility Criteria.  

(iii) Candidates who have qualified for CA or CS or ICWA are also eligible to appear in the UGC NET exam.

UGC NET Subject Criteria:

The candidates have to choose a subject for UGC NET Paper II, it should be a subject that was part of their postgraduation course. Please note that National Testing Agency may keep your result on hold in case you appear for a subject that is irrelevant or unrelated to your post-graduation degree.

UGC NET Exemption Details (Eligibility for Assistant Professor)

  • There are certain conditions under which the candidate does not need to appear in UGC NET for an Assistant Professor post at Universities, colleges, and Institutes. Please note that the eligibility for appointment as an Assistant Professor in the Indian institutions is NET/SET/SLET. So candidates who have cleared SET (State Eligibility Test) accredited by UGC for Assistant Professor and held before 1st June 2024 are exempted from appearing in UGC-NET as they are already eligible to apply for the Assistant Professor post.
  • Candidates who have cleared the SET exam held after 1st June 2024,  are eligible to apply for the Assistant Professor post only in the colleges/universities/institutes located in the state from where they have cleared the State Eligibility Test. 

UGC NET Reservation Policy:

UGC NET Application Form 2024:

UGC NET Exam 2024 is conducted twice in a year. They are held in two sessions - June Session and December Session. The UGC NET 2024 June session is held in two phases, Phase-I was held on 9th, 11th, and 12th July 2024 for 33 subjects and Phase II will be held between 20th and 30th September 2024 for 64 subjects.

UGC NET Application Form 2024 - How to Apply for UGC NET?

UGC will release the instructions to fill out the UGC NET Application Form along with the notification. All the candidates are instructed to read these instructions carefully before filling out the NET Application form. And please ensure that you are eligible to apply for the exam before submitting your application form. You can check the UGC NET Eligibility criteria on our website. 

Below we have mentioned the steps to apply for UGC NET Exam 2024: 

Registration on the Website

  • Visit the official website of UGC NET i.e https://ugcnet.nta.nic.in/
  • Click on the Notification in which you can find the UGC NET 2024 Registration link. You can also find the UGC NET Registration link on the homepage,
  • A new page will open, click on the "New Registration" button and download the information brochure to proceed, 
  • Now click on "Click here to proceed" and the registration page will appear on the screen. 
  • Fill in all the required details such as the Candidate's name, Father's name, Mother's name, DOB, Identification no., and Contact details.
  • Now create a password, choose a security question, answer and enter the security pin as shown on the screen.
  • Click on Submit and review the information provided by you, and then click on Final Submit Button. Once Finally submitted, an application no. will be generated and displayed on the screen. Take a screenshot or note down the application no. for future reference. 

Form Filling Process

  • Now click on the "complete application form" button and then proceed further with the application process.
  • Fill rest of the details required in the form including your personal details, education details, and the post and subjects you are applying for. And then click on the “Final Submit Button”

Upload Documents

Now Upload the scanned images of your photograph and signature in the given format:

Application Fee Payment 

Now the final step is " Paying the UGC NET Application Fee". Pay UGC NET Application fee 2024 using any online payment mode or credit card/debit card (SBI/HDFC/Syndicate/ICICI/Paytm payment gateway).

Download Confirmation Page 

On receiving the successful payment, a confirmation page will appear on the screen,  candidates need to take a printout of the confirmation page for future reference.

Documents Required to fill UGC NET Application Form 2024:

The following are the documents that you will require while filling the UGC NET Application Form:

  • University Degree
  • Aadhar Card No./Passport no./ Voter ID/Ration Card/Government ID 
  • Qualifying degree certificate 
  • EWS Certificate (if applicable)
  • Category Certificate (if applicable)
  • PWD certificate (if applicable)
  • Scanned Photograph & Signature 
  • A Valid Email & Mobile no. 
  • Address Proof 

Things to keep in mind while filling up the UGC NET Application Form:

  • Candidates can submit the UGC NET Application Form 2024 on the official website only. Application through any other mode is not accepted by NTA. 
  • One person can submit only one application form. 
  • All the details provided by the candidate in the application form must be correct. The email ID and mobile no. must be valid as all the communication related to the UGC NET Exam 2024 will be done through these mediums only, 
  • All four steps involved in the UGC NET Application process can be completed together or separately. 
  • Only scanned photos and signatures are required to be uploaded to the application form. Other than this, no other document is required to be uploaded in the application form. 
  • After the application fee payment, in case the confirmation page doesn't get generated, the transaction may get canceled. If this is the case, then you don't need to worry, your amount will be refunded to your bank account. However, you will have to make another payment to complete your application process. 
  • Candidates must take a snapshot and a printout of the confirmation page for future reference.
