JEE Main Normalisation Process:

Since the JEE main exam is conducted in multiple sessions, some sessions may have easy question papers while the other sessions may have tough questions. To make sure that all the candidates are evaluated in a fair and unbiased manner, the National Testing Agency uses the normalization process for the calculation of marks. The normalization scoring process indicates the total number of candidates who score above or below the topmost scorer of that particular session.

Calculation of JEE Mains Percentile:

  • 100*total number of candidates who appeared for the session with a raw score equal to or less than the T1 score/total number of candidates who have appeared for the session
  • If two or more candidates secure the same percentile in the JEE main B. Tech Entrance exam result there will be a tie-breaker.
  • Given below is the list of subjects considered for tie-breaking in order of their importance:
  • Mathematics
  • Physics
  • Chemistry
  • The highest scorer of the subjects in order of priority will get the higher rank.
  • If the marks obtained in all the subjects are the same, the candidate with fewer negative responses will get the higher rank.
  • In case the above criteria are not met, the candidate who is older in age will get the higher rank.
