What is the Normalization process for the RRB NTPC Exam Pattern?

The Railway Recruitment Board uses the Normalization method for calculating the marks obtained by the candidates in the exams. As the questions have different levels of difficulty, RRB uses a fair method of calculating the marks scored by the candidates. Normalization of the score is a statistical and scientific process that uses the raw marks of the candidate based on Mean and Standard Deviation for a particular exam session.

The revised Formula for Normalization is given below:

Given below is a simplified explanation for calculating the raw score of the candidate based on the normalization formula:

  • Assume the candidate attempts 60 questions out of 100.
  • 54 out of the 60 questions are correct and 6 questions are wrong.
  • The candidate will get 54 marks for the correct answers and -2 (⅓ mark deducted for every wrong answer) marks for the wrong answers.
  • The net core of the candidate is 54-2= 52 marks.
  • The raw score of the candidate will be as follows:
  • 52/98 multiplied by 100 which is equal to 53.06.
  • Therefore the raw score of the candidate after the normalization process is 53.06.
