Territorial Army (TA) Exam Pattern 2024

The Territorial Army has three stages for civilians. The written exam is part of PIB which is both qualifying and scoring in nature. The qualified candidates will be called for the SSB Interview for physical and mental examination. After SSB candidates will appear for medical examination.

However, for the Ex-servicemen, the recruitment process differs. The ex-services man selection process for the Territorial army recruitment involves only 2 stages i.e., the Army Headquarter Selection Board test and a medical examination.

TA Army Exam Pattern 2024: Details

The maximum marks carried by TA Army Exam 2024 is 200 marks. The duration of the exam will be a total of 4 hours.

As discussed earlier the TA Army Exam will consist of two papers Paper I and Paper-II. Paper, I will have two sections: Logical Reasoning and Elementary Mathematics and Paper-II will have another two sections namely the General Knowledge section and the English Language section.

Each section of Paper I and Paper II will have 50 questions and each question will carry a weightage of 1 mark. This means that each paper will have 100 questions in it and will carry a weightage of 100 marks in Total. All the candidates will be given a time of two hours to solve each paper.   

The difficulty level of the Elementary Mathematics section will be moderate, the matriculation level problems will be asked in Paper I. In the Logical Reasoning section, the candidates will have to answer the questions by using their aptitude to reason logically. In this section, your analytical thinking and aptitude will help you to solve the questions.

In the General Knowledge section Paper-II, Candidates will be asked about History, Current affairs, Sports, Literature, Science and Technology, Indian Art and Culture, Indian politics, and Indian Geography. On the other hand, the English section will assess your vocabulary.

The difficulty level of the English section will also be moderate and a candidate who has good command over general English can solve the questions easily.

Language of the Exam: Hindi and English

Marking Scheme: Negative Marking (half marks will be deducted fo each wrong answer)

  • The total duration of the written examination for civilians is 4 hours.
  • The type of examination question is objective type, that is multiple-choice questions.
  • The mode of examination will be both English and Hindi.
  • Two written examinations are held for civilians- Paper 1 and paper 2.
  • Paper 1 and paper 2 are split into two parts with 100 marks per paper.
  • The total marks for the written examination are 200.
  • There is a negative marking for each incorrect answer.

Territorial Army Bharti 2024: Selection Process

Territorial Army Bharti 2024 Selection Process: The Territorial Army Selection procedure is different for Civilians and Ex-servicemen. If you are an aspirant who is looking form to apply for Territorial Army, then you should know about the selection procedure for the Territorial Army Recruitment 2024.

1. Territorial Army Selection: For Civilian Applicants

The TA Selection procedure for the Civilian candidates are divided into three stages:

Stage 1: Written Exam followed by Screening Interview

In this stage the candidate has to appear in a written examination which will consist of two papers (Paper I and Paper II). The weightage of the exam will be 200 marks (100 marks for each Paper). The candidate must score at least 40% in each section of the papers and the total marks scored in this exam must be more than 50%. The candidates who will qualify for the written exam will receive a call letter for a screening test (interview) which will be conducted by the Preliminary Interview Board (PIB).

Stage 2: SSB Examination (Service Selection Board Examination)

The candidates who will qualify for the first stage of the selection procedure will get an opportunity to appear in the next round which will be an SSB examination. In this examination, various tests will be conducted by the Service Selection Board. This is a very crucial stage.

Stage 3: Medical Examination

 The candidates qualifying the stage 2 (SSB Examination) will have to undergo a Medical examination. According to the rules, the candidate must be physically and mentally healthy to serve in the Territorial Army. So, the candidate must meet all the medical eligibility criteria as per military standards.

2. Territorial Army Selection: For Ex-Servicemen

Stage 1: Screening Test 

The ex-servicemen have to appear in a screening test which will be done by the Army Headquarters Selection Board at the additional directorate general territorial army.

Stage 2: Medical Examination

All the selected candidates will have to undergo a medical test. They must be physically and mentally fit to serve in the territorial army.

Stage 3: Police verification

After the Medical examination, the selected candidates will have to go through a police verification process, in which their previous records will be checked out. This is the final step of the selection procedure for the ex-servicemen.

Documents need to be carried out during the Preliminary Interview

Candidates qualifying the written test conducted by the Preliminary Interview Board will have to appear in the Preliminary Interview.

The candidate will have to carry the following documents along with them on the Interview day:

  • Application Form IAF(TA)-9 (Revised) Part-2 which must be downloaded from the official website and must be filled in their own handwriting,
  • Copy of ID proofs with the Photographs such as PAN Card, Voter ID, Passport, Driving License, etc.
  • Latest Physical Fitness Certificate is obtained and signed by a registered MBBS Doctor.
  • Residential Proof/ Domicile
  • Age proof (Matric Certificate/12th Marksheet and Birth Certificate)
  • Service Certificate or letter of employment by the candidates who are employed in the Private sector. (must be authenticated by head office along with the salary certificate and No Objection Certificate by the department)
  • Service letter or letter of employment by the candiates who are employed in a Central Government/State government/Union Territory/Public Service Undertaking. (the letter must be authenticated by Head Office along with the salary certificate and No objection certificate by the department)
  • Self-employed candidates must submit an Affidavit on Non-Judicial stamp paper of minimum value to be attested with the statement of nature of employment and annual income along with the PAN Card photocopy and self-certified Character Certificate.
  • Candidates who had changed their names or who have varying names in the documents must submit a copy of the Gazette Notification of India/State stating the correct name of an affidavit duly supported with newspaper cuttings.
  • The latest proof of Income is obtained from the appropriate authority.
  • The latest copy of ITR was filed by the candidate.
  • Railway employees must submit a No Objection Certification authenticated by the Railway board.
  • A photocopy of PAN Card and Aadhar Card.
