KSET Exam Information 2024

KSET is the Karnataka State Eligibility Test conducted by the University of Mysore. The main objective of the KSET Exam is for the selection of Assistant Professors and Lecturers at the State level Universities, colleges, and Higher Education Institutes of Karnataka that are Government or aided or Private.

KSET is a nodal agency of the UGC and candidates who qualify for the KSET exam can fill the vacant posts of Assistant Professors at the colleges of Karnataka.

The main eligibility criteria of KSET is that the candidates must have a Master’s Degree in the relevant subject from a recognized University.

All the details regarding the exam will be released on the official portal by the authorities and the registration process will be conducted online mode.

The KSET Exam 2024 consists of 2 Papers and the questions are objective type with multiple choice answers. Paper I will consist of 50 questions with total marks of 100 and Paper II will consist of 100 questions with a total mark of 200.

Candidates appearing for the KSET Exam have to undergo a rigorous Merit-based selection process. There are a total of 41 subjects for which the KCET Exam is held and there are 11 Centers for the exam that are spread across the State of Karnataka.

KSET Eligibility Criteria

The KSET Eligibility criteria are the most important factor that the candidates must check before they start downloading the application form. The eligibility criteria for the KSET Exam include 2 main categories- Age limit and educational qualifications of the candidate.

The KSET eligibility criteria will be decided by the University of Mysore and the UGC. Candidates who meet all the requirements of KSET eligibility can apply for the post of Assistant Professors and Lecturers in the colleges and Institutes of Karnataka.

Academic Qualifications

  • Candidates must complete their Master’s Degree/equivalent program from a UGC-recognized University in the relevant subject.
  • Candidates must secure at least 55% aggregate in the Master’s
  • Degree program(50% for the reserved category including SC/ST/PwD/OBC).
  • Candidates who are in their Master's Degree program (1st or 2nd Semester) or have appeared for the Master’s Degree final year exams are eligible to apply for the KSET Exam. However such candidates will be selected for the Assistant Professor posts on a provisional basis. These candidates will be issued an eligibility certificate once they qualify for the Master's Degree program with the required aggregate. Candidates who fail to provide the Master's Degree Certificate within 2 years of KSET Result will be disqualified and their candidature canceled.
  • Candidates can appear for the KSET Exam in the subject of their Postgraduation. If the subject of post-graduation is not available in the list of KSET subjects, then candidates can appear for the UGC-NET/CSIR-NET exam that is held twice a year.
  • Candidates who are Ph.D. degree holders and who have completed their Master’s Degree exam by 19th September 1991 will get a relaxation of 5% marks in their overall aggregate while appearing for the KSET exam.
  • Candidates who have completed their postgraduate/Diploma/Certificate program from a foreign University must provide sufficient proof to indicate the equivalence of the program to UGC-recognized Indian Universities or Indian Universities recognized by AIU (Association of Indian Universities).

Age Limit

There is no upper age limit for the KSET exam 2024.

Some important features of the KSET eligibility criteria:

  • Candidates who are from the reserved categories (SC/ST/PwD/OBC) must mention their reservation status in the application form.
  • Candidates who belong to the reserved categories must have their Caste category certificates issued by recognized authorities.
  • Candidates who have qualified for the KSET exam in a particular subject in the previous year cannot apply for the same subject in the present year.
  • Only those candidates who fulfill the complete eligibility requirements can apply for the KSET exams.

Exemptions of the KSET Eligibility Criteria

  • Candidates who have qualified for the NET/SLET/SET are exempted from appearing for the KSET exam for the appointment of Assistant Professors and Lecturers in the Colleges and Universities of Karnataka.

  • Candidates who have appeared for the SET (State Eligibility Test) accredited by the UGC for the appointment of Assistant Professors before 1st June 2002 will be exempted from appearing for the KSET exam.

  • Candidates who have qualified for the SET exam before 1st June 2002 can apply for the post of Assistant Professors from the State where they have cleared the SLET exam.
