Kerala TET Exam 2025 Eligibility Criteria

The required educational qualification determines eligibility for the KTET exam. Candidates must meet the following requirements for each KTET paper. Candidates must thoroughly read the official announcement for more information and a better understanding of eligibility.

1 Category I (Lower Primary Classes)
  • The candidate must have cleared Higher Secondary/ Senior Secondary with at least 45% with either:
  • 2-year Trained Teachers’ Certificate (TTC)
  • ​​​​2-year Diploma in Elementary Education
  • The candidate must have cleared Higher Secondary/ Senior Secondary with at least 50% of either
  • 4-year Bachelor of Elementary Education
  • 2-year Diploma in Education (Special Education)
  • Candidates from the SC/ST and differently-abled groups are eligible for a 5% qualifying mark relaxation. OBC and OEC candidates are also given a 3% reduction in qualifying marks.
2 Category II (Upper Primary Classes)
  • The applicant must be a holder of BA/BSc/BCom with either:
  • The applicant must have a BA/BSc/BCom degree and either a 2-year diploma in elementary education or a TTC (Trained Teachers' Certificate).
  • ​​​​1 year Bachelor in Education
  • Candidate should have passed Higher Secondary/Senior Secondary (at least 50% ) with either:
  • 4-year Bachelor in Elementary Education (BElEd)
  • 4-year BA/B.Sc.Ed or BA Ed or B.Sc.Ed.
  • Candidates from the SC/ST and differently-abled groups will have their qualifying marks reduced by 5%. Additionally, OBC and OEC candidates are eligible for a 3% reduction in the minimum qualifying marks.
3 Category III (High School Classes) Either of the following:
  • BA/BSc/BCom (45% marks) + B.Ed. Degree in the concerned subject
  • ​​​For Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Botany, and Zoology: MScEd Degree (50% marks) in the concerned subject.
  • ​​​​For Botany and Zoology: MScEd Degree in Life Science (50%)
  • ​​​​BA (45% marks) + passed in LTTC
  • ​​​​Candidates with degrees achieved through recognized correspondence courses or open universities should obtain and produce certificates of recognition and equivalency from any of Kerala's institutions.
  • ​​​​Candidates who earned their degrees through accredited correspondence courses or open universities should obtain and present certificates of recognition and equivalency from any of Kerala's institutions.
  • ​​​​Only the grades from the main and subsidiary papers will be taken into account when determining the required criteria.
  • ​​​​Candidates from the SC/ST and differently-abled groups will be given a 5% mark reduction in the minimum qualifying marks. OBC and OEC candidates can get a 3% reduction in their qualifying scores if they take the K-TET- III.
4 Category IV Required qualification as mentioned in chapter XXXI, Kerala Education Act & Rules for the post of Language Teachers of Arabic, Hindi, Sanskrit & Urdu (up to Upper Primary level), Specialist teachers & Physical Education

KTET Age Restrictions 

There is no upper age limit for taking the KTET exam. Candidates who meet all of the educational prerequisites outlined in the KTET Eligibility Criteria are eligible to take the certification exam.

Relaxation of Age

Candidates can refer to the table below to learn about the age relaxation offered to candidates who are beyond the age restriction for the KTET exam category.

KTET Exam Category Age Relaxation
Category I (Lower Primary Classes) A relaxation of 5% in qualifying marks is admissible for candidates belonging to SC/ST and Differently abled categories. Also, a relaxation of 3% in qualifying marks is given to OBC & OEC candidates.
Category II (Upper Primary Classes) Relaxation up to 5 within the qualifying marks shall be allowed to the candidates belonging to SC/ST and Differently abled categories. A relaxation of 3 & within the minimum qualifying marks is admissible for OBC & OEC candidates.
Category III (High School Classes) Candidates belonging to SC/ST and differently-abled categories shall be granted a relaxation of fifty marks within the minimum qualifying marks. Relaxation of 3% within the qualifying marks to OBC & OEC candidates for the K-TET- III.
Category IV (Language teacher or specialist teacher)

Candidates belonging to SC/ST and differently-abled categories are going to be granted a relaxation of fifty marks within the qualifying marks prescribed for the eligibility to appear for the K-TET-IV.

Candidates belonging to OBC & OEC categories are going to be granted a relaxation of three marks within the qualifying marks prescribed for the eligibility to appear for K-TET-IV.
