The foundation of Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar University (formerly known as Agra University) was laid on the 1st of July, 1927, as a result of the extreme efforts of a band of enthusiastic educationists. The original authority of the University extended over the United Provinces of Agra, Central India and Rajputana with 14 affiliated colleges and 2530 students of which, 1475 students were part of United Provinces. Earlier, there were only four faculties in the University. Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar University is one of the Top colleges in Agra.

The Agra University, Agra was relabelled as Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar University, Agra. The University now deals with the educational needs of the seven districts of Agra. Besides being the Best College in Agra, the University is pleased to have been affiliated with Sarojini Naidu Medical College, which is one of the earliest and premier Medical Institutes in the country. Currently, the university has approximately 200 affiliated colleges and 15 residential Institutes spread out over its four residential campuses. Furthermore, this university authorizes colleges of Homeopathy, extending all over the State of U.P.
