Can I do B.Tech After 12th?

Yes, You can do a B.Tech course after the 12th if you have chosen the Science stream in the 12th class. A B.Tech course is a 4-year undergraduate degree course that can be pursued after passing 12th from a recognized board. However, the candidates who have studied Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics as mainstream subjects in 10+2 are eligible to pursue a B.Tech degree. In other words, it is mandatory for a student to opt Science stream with Mathematics in 10+2 to pursue a B.Tech course after 12th. Can I do B.Tech After 12th Commerce or Arts?

Can I do B.Tech After 12th with 50% Marks?

  • It is not necessary to be outstanding at academics to pursue an Engineering course. It is well said that “Your marks will not determine your future”, that is why there are no such higher criteria stated by AICTE to pursue a B.Tech course. and yes of course you can opt for a B.Tech course if you have scored 45% or 50% in 10+2 board examinations but you must score passing marks in every subject separately. 
  • A candidate having 45%- 50% aggregate marks in 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics as main subjects are eligible for a B.Tech course. But if you are aspiring to pursue your course from an IIT, NIT, BITS Pilani, or any other prestigious college, then you need to score a minimum of 75% aggregate marks (65% aggregate for reserved category candidates) along with a valid score in the required entrance exam.

Can I do B.Tech After 11th:

As already mentioned, B.Tech is an undergraduate technical course that is done after completing 12th. Thus, one cannot pursue a B.Tech course without passing 12th from a recognized board. So, No you cannot do a B.tech course After the 11th class.  

Steps to get Admission in B.Tech After 12th:

  • There are two ways of getting admission in a B.Tech  After 12th - the first one is an entrance-based admission and the second is merit-based admission. 
  • Some of the reputed B.Tech Colleges offer admission in B.Tech after 12th based on the national, state, or university level entrance examinations (such as JEE Mains, JEE-Advanced, BITSAT, AMITY JEE, UPSEE, etc.) while some other colleges also offer admissions based on the 10+2 merit scores. 
  • To get admission in the B.Tech after 12th based on merit, you just need to visit the official website of the college and fill the application form with all the required details, upload documents and pay the application fee. After that, you have to wait for the admission confirmation or final merit list. Usually, the college releases a merit list that consists of the names of the shortlisted candidates, this merit list is released on the official website of the college and shortlisted candidates will have to pay their semester fee to confirm their admission. Some colleges also call the shortlisted candidates for counseling sessions during which the seats are allotted to them and they have to confirm their admission by paying their fee after counseling.
  • Entrance-based admissions are done on the basis of the University’s norms and admission criteria. Some reputed Engineering colleges such as Jamia Milia Islamia, Thapar Institute of Engineering & Technology, Institute of Chemical Technology grants B.Tech admissions based on the JEE-Mains entrance exam score. Many institutes and universities also conduct their own entrance exams to shortlist candidates for the Admission Process. 
  •  Candidates who aspire to get admission in an IIT -the most prestigious engineering college in India, have to qualify JEE Mains entrance exam and then appear in JEE-Advanced. To appear in the JEE-Advance exam the candidate has an aggregate score of 75% in 10+2 along with JEE Main score equal to the JEE Mains cut off which is released by NTA( National Testing Agency). Then you have to obtain a valid All India Rank in the JEE-Advanced entrance exam. The qualified candidates will be called for JosAA counseling, on the basis of which the seats will be allotted to the candidates.
