Non Formal Education:

Non-formal education refers to education that is basically outside of the formal school system. As non-formal education is diverse, this element has many aspects in common with other elements. Non-formal education is also chosen as the second-best option as compared to formal education.

Non-formal education became part of the international discouragement of education policy in the late 1960s and early 1970s. In my opinion, it is a learning movement that contains a lot of values and importance for every one carried out, from the formal education system. Education is a very important part of everyone’s life and it's constant. Sometimes we don’t even see all the things from which we educate ourselves and learn new things.

Principles of Non-Formal Education:

Many guiding principles can help an educator to design a fruitful non-formal education experience. Non-Formal Education has to be consistent with the following principles:

  • Focusing on the satisfaction of the needs of the participants. 
  • The flexibility of the organizational process and curriculum can be changed.
  • A learner-centered approach to learning.
  • Human relationships in the non-formal learning process are informal.
  • Non-formal education is focused on practical skills, knowledge, and development of creativity.

The objective of Non-Formal Education:

The objective of non-formal education is by taking a point of departure in the courses and activities, to increase the individual’s general and academic insight and skills. Which enhances the ability of desire to take responsibility for their own life, as well as take an active and engaged part in society. Non-formal adult education comprises teaching, study circles, lectures, debate-creating activities, and flexibly organized activities, and fees are charged for participation.

The Teaching is usually offered at evening schools which, within the framework laid down in and under law, themselves create the frame for their choice of subjects and activity. The overall grant to non-formal liberal education. Here are some objectives of non-formal education;

  • To enable maximum out-of-school children from 9 to 14 years and attend the non-formal streams.

Some activities encourage young people to choose their own programs and projects that are important because they offer the youth the flexibility and freedom to explore their emerging interests.

  • By developing the skills of each individual. You boost their self-esteem.
  • Boosts job placement opportunities and encourages self-employment.
  • The capacity to learn and discover on your own develops a healthy critical attitude of your surroundings, social norms, and power mechanisms.

Features of Non-Formal Education in India:

Generally, NFE (Non - formal education) is conceptualized as an organized educational activity, occurring in the traditional framework of the formal education system. Despite the all-around improvement in school education. Non-formal education along with its flexible nature and expanding scope is deeply rooted in the field of education in India.

This process of education has been involved to deal with illiterates, and school drop-outs, which is the inadequacy of formal education and the shortcomings of the school to meet the realistic needs of the learners to cope with actual life situations.

  • It is well-planned and has no need for any school system.
  • A participatory learning system.
  • It is an open-ended educational system.
  • No need for structured courses and curriculum.
  • Age, time, and curriculum flexibility.
  • Involvement of both the public and private sectors in the process.
  • Credentials, life certificates, and awards are not necessary to be awarded.
  • Self-learning is appreciated.
