Full Form of DRDO, DRCC and EBRT

What is DRDO

The full form of DRDO is Defence Research and Development Organisation, which is the organization/ agency controlled by the Ministry of Defence, Government of India, It is charged by the military and its headquarter is located in Delhi. DRDO was formed in 1958. The first project of this organization was “Operation Indigo”, this project was planned for the Indian Military for Surface to air missiles in the 1960s.

However, it was not a great success, hence they dropped out of the operation. The organization has achieved many successes in developing high-tech systems and technologies like artillery systems, EW systems, small arms, UAVs, armored vehicles, sonar systems, and missile systems. This article will not only tell you about the Full Form of DRDO, DRCC, and EBRT but also give you details about it

What is the work of DRDO

DRDO's first project for the Indian military was in surface-to-air missiles (SAM) known as Project Indigo. However, it received little success and was therefore discontinued. Since being set up, DRDO has achieved many successes in developing major systems and critical technologies like aircraft avionics, UAVs, small arms, artillery systems, EW Systems, tanks, and armored vehicles, sonar systems, command and control systems, and missile systems.DRDO is India’s largest and most efficient research organization with a network chain of 52 laboratories, the main aim behind the establishment of DRDO is to strengthen the nation’s defense mechanism technologically.

On one hand, the “project Indigo” was discontinued later without any final success, but on the other hand, it led to other projects like “project Devil” and “project Valiant” which resulted in the development of SAM ( Surface to air missiles) and ICBM ( intercontinental ballistic missile). Other developments contributed by DRDO in strengthening the nation's defense system are “Agni Missile”, “Akash Missile”, “Nag Missile”.

What is DRCC

The full form of DRCC is District Registration cum Counseling Center, which is a center that helps to introduce and implement the scheme introduced by the government more effectively. Anyone can get detailed information about the public welfare scheme introduced by the government. To know about government schemes, the person has to visit the DRCC office, located in every district or you can simply visit the website. You can easily apply for government services by visiting the center or fill the registration forms online.

What is EBRT

The full form of EBRT is External Beam Radiation Therapy. It is very common and advanced radiotherapy used by oncologists for cancer treatment. The linear accelerator machine (LINAC) is used in EBRT to deliver high-energy gamma rays to the tumor, the machine moves around the body without touching the patient.

This treatment uses radiation to destroy the cancer cells and allow the body to regenerate cells. Diseases like Breast Cancer, Lung Cancer, Prostate Cancer, colorectal cancer, Melanoma, Non-Hodgkin lymphoma, Kidney Cancer, Uterine Cancer, Leukemia are treated by using EBRT. This treatment is recommended by most oncologists because it is a painless method and reduces the risk of side effects, unlike traditional cancer treatments.

The duration of the treatment depends on the type and stage of cancer, Usually, it is done over a period of 2 to 10 weeks. There are six types of EBRT based on the method and treatment of disease:

  1. Three-dimensional Conformal Radiation Therapy( 3d-CRT)- In this Therapy, the CT-Scan is used to identify the precise location of cancer and other unaffected areas which need to be protected. Then the beams are passed through the affected area. This is the most common method used to treat cancer.
  2. Intensity-modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT) - It is a highly accurate type of radiotherapy, mostly used in curative treatment, it shapes and divides multiple beams of radiation into smaller ones.
  3. Image-guided Radiation Therapy (IGRT) - CT-scan and X-ray machines are used to identify that the patient is in the correct state of the position, markers are used near the affected area or cancer area, this treatment is mostly used in the treatment where the movement of the affected area is possible. This treatment is performed with high accuracy to ensure the correct positioning.
  4. Stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS) and Stereotactic radiation therapy (SRT)- It combines vast no. of radiations to give small targeted radiation. SRS is one high dose and SRT is delivered as a small no. of high doses. This treatment is used to treat cancers in the brain and a custom mask is worn by the patient to keep the head still.
  5. Stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT)- It is a similar treatment to SRS as this method also delivers tight focusses high-dose radiation into the tumor from different angles. It is used in the treatment of small cancers like lung or liver cancer.
  6. Proton Therapy- In this treatment, photons which are tiny particles of an atom, are used instead of x-rays. It is used when the cancer is in sensitive areas like spinal cords or brain stem cells in children.
  7. Proton Therapy- In this treatment, photons ( tiny particles of an atom), are used instead of x-rays. It is used when the cancer is in sensitive areas like spinal cords or brain stem cells in children.
