Delhi University or DU which is earlier known as the University of Delhi was established in the year 1922. DU is a public central university which is located in New Delhi. According to NIRF rankings, Delhi University is ranked 1st among the best universities in India.
DU has affiliated 85 colleges and five other institutes in India. Some of the DU affiliated colleges are Hindu College, St. Stephen’s College, Gargi College, Hansraj College, etc. Delhi University comprises 16 faculties and 86 academic departments that are distributed across its North and South campuses.
Delhi University (DU) offers admission to the students in various specializations under the various undergraduate (UG) courses (B.A, B.Sc, B.Com, B.Tech) and postgraduate (PG) courses (MA, M.Com, M.Sc, M.Tech). The DU admission can be done through the two modes. The first is Merit-based while the second is through the entrance exam. With its great work and skills, Delhi University is one of the largest universities in India with 77 affiliated colleges spread all over Delhi.
DU offers admission into the various UG, PG, and doctorate programs by two processes. One is through a merit basis and the other is the entrance exam. Admission can be done to merit-based courses such as BA, BA (Hons), BSc, BSc (Hons), BCom, BCom (Hons) and entrance-based courses such as B.Tech, BBA, BBM, B.El.Ed, etc. The application process for the entrance exam starts in May every year.

Age- There is no age limit for admission to the post-graduate courses in the University and its colleges. But age limit can be a factor in the courses where the respective regulatory bodies such as the Bar Council of India (BCI), Medical Council of India (MCI), All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE), National Council of Teacher Education (NCTE), Dental Council of India (DCI), etc. have set the minimum age requirement in their respective regulations.
Qualifying examination- All the courses have their own eligibility criteria in terms of the qualifying examination.
Reservation criteria- There are reservation criteria for all the candidates. 22.5% of seats are reserved for the students who belong to the SC and ST (15% for SC and 7.5% for ST, interchangeable, if necessary). 27% of seats are reserved for the students who belong to the Other Backward Classes (OBC) in the Govt. of India List.

A. The minimum marks required for a student to take admission in DU are 50%. Therefore, a student having 50% marks can take admission to DU. However, admission will be done based on the cut-off that is released by the DU and the student qualifying the cut-off percentage.

Q. How can a student apply for a program through the ECA or sports quota?
A. Every college has a separate form for the ECA and sports quota admission that need to be filled. For taking admission through the sports quota, there is a centralized fitness test to be conducted by University Sports Council (USC) and trials conducted by colleges. Similarly, colleges will organize trials for ECA as well.
Q. Is there any relaxation offered to the female students?
A. Relaxation for female students varies from college to college and even from course to course. However, the upper limit has been fixed to 5%.
Q. Are there any special seats for NCC cadets/NSS?
A. Delhi University has no special quota for the NCC/NSS category in any of the colleges.
Q. Can a student without a maths background in class 12th opt for BA Economics (Hons) or BCom (Hons)?
