Birla Institute of Technology is among top engineering colleges in India, Birla Institute of Technology was founded by Mr B. M. Birla in the year 1955 at Mesra.  Mr B. M. Birla was an industrialist but had an objective to bestow the academic with research programs under an umbrella. In Accordance to the motive, it was ranked to be the first and top engineering college setting up Space & Rocketry Department at its campus in 1964.

All the branches of Birla Institute work under the parental control of the deemed university. The Allahabad Mirzapur campus was started in 1997 with a purpose to just provide part-time b.tech for working engineers like diploma holders who wished to commence for further studies but depending on the market demand of professionals in computers and management skills it further introduced many of new courses accomplishing the needs for the same. The grand big target of Birla campus at Allahabad also made it rank among top engineering colleges of India and top college engineering college of Allahabad. In order to maintain its rank among top engineering colleges of India it has laid special emphasis on the parameters set by the deemed campus for excellence.

It got its first affiliation from  Patna University which lasted till 1960. After that, it was again affiliated to Institute of Science and Management, Ranchi. till 1986.  After 1986 it emerged as a deemed university under the University Grants Commission Act of 1956. The journey of Birla institute from the day of its blooming to the top college of India was not for a day it took years of dedication and continuous hard work to get at the top of management and technical colleges in India.

It also set up SIRDO(Small Industries Research and Development Organization) in 1970, which acted as a rocketing platform for students of BIT which mainly consisted of the manufacturing managed by the students graduated from BIT, this  was a new concept and laterally was abilized by the Department Of Science and Technology Of Government of India and was multi furcated by the government of India in the name of Science and Technological Entrepreneurs Park (STEP) Birla Institute of Technology had also set its centre in Bahrain in 2000. with corte, it structures as PARAM 1000 as its supercomputer

Birla Institute Of Technology Location-

The location of the institution is admirable, lying at the confluence of two holy rivers namely  Suvarnarekha and Jhumar which is at a distance of 16 kilometres from Ranchi with a campus of more than 980 acres adds charms to its beauty. Birla Institute is no more confined to India alone it had spread its roots to various other parts of the world.

It consists of more than eleven branches including Khaima campus. It runs many programs some at its own and others with collaboration to make its students reach the zenith of success. Some of them are mentioned as under-

• Birla institute MESRA is an active member of EAGER which is a program belonging to European Commission running under the  Net WiC Project, ASIA LINK focusing on the higher level of studies in the field of wireless systems and mobile communication
• In  cooperation with Aalborg University which is located in Denmark BIT Mesra has opened an international centre for wireless and mobile communication under the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering
• Purdue University located at the United States has signed an agreement with BITS Mesra for the student exchange.
• BITS Mesra has also an agreement with the University of Leeds located in the United Kingdom, for the dual degrees in bachelor of engineering from BIT and Master of engineering from LEEDS
• In the field of business administration, it is a partner with the University of New Brunswick, Saint John, Canada, BITS is one among the only two educational partners of this university.
• BIT Mesra top among the only five universities of India who are partners with  French "n+i" network, if we talk about French "n+i" network it is an association of 70 postgraduate schools in the field of engineering from FRANCE who have agreed on their actions for international cooperation
• BIT Mesra is financed by the Ministry of Education, Universities and Research, Italy for providing the international course of PhD in computer science.
• BIT Mesra is also eligible for Cargill Global Scholars Program, which is working with Institute of International Education. BIT MESRA is top among top five engineering colleges in India

National Alliance-

• BIT Mesra has the memorandum of understanding signed by Indian Railways Institute of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, which further gives a chance to the selected candidates of special class railway apprentice course to pursue training under Mechanical Engineering at BIT Mesra.
• In the collaboration with  BIT Mesra, Institution of Engineers offers ME programme for practising engineers and corporate members.
• In  the collaboration with  BIT Mesra, The Institute of Technology and Management (ITM), Mumbai has begun a research program offering PhD degree in management
• In the collaboration with ICICI Prudential Life Insurance  BIT Mesra is offering PGPMI, which is a six months postgraduate program in the stream of management and insurance.
• In the collaboration with  BIT Mesra, Lotus Clinical Research Academy, Bangalore offers a two-year masters course in Clinical Research, M.S. in Clinical Research and Pharmacovigilance and Postgraduate Diploma in Bioanalytical Techniques whose duration is 1 year.
• Department of Mechanical Engineering, BIT Mesra has been enacted by the National Program for Materials and Smart Structures (NPMASS) to set up a Micro Electro Mechanical Systems (MEMS) Designing  Centre.
• Department of Remote Sensing & Geoinformatics, BIT Mesra is selected by  SAC ISRO and PRL Ahmedabad with IIT Bombay and IIT Roorkee for the data interpretation of Chandrayaan-1
