Introduction:

The New Education Policy is suitable for students looking at the present condition of the nation. The main motive of this policy is that every student can afford quality education and can develop skills that are helpful in their career. Also, It has broken the barrier between the multiple streams. So, it is more flexible and students can choose any stream at any stage of their education.

It is the first time after three decades that the Education Policy has improved to this extent. Minor changes have been made a few times but this time it has improved significantly. These changes are made because the old education system is not giving the required result and also was based on rote learning. Now, this New Education Policy is based on skill development and career building.

What are the Features of New Education Policy 2020:

The New Education Policy is loaded with lots of features. These features are beneficial for students and the board. The core feature of the New Education Policy is that it is prepared considering the present condition of the nation and world. The old policy was inefficient to provide the required result. It was completely based on the learning of facts and formulas.

Today a student needs to be well skilled rather than well informed with the facts and theoretical knowledge. Another more important feature is that you can choose your career at any stage of your education. You can choose subjects from different streams which are helpful in your career building in a new education scheme. However, for this, a student must be aware of what he wants to be.

Promotes Education in Native Languages:

In the old education policy students have to learn multiple languages from the beginning of their education. This becomes difficult for students from tribal backgrounds. They were not able to understand it properly. So, the New Education Policy is based on the fact that education must be understandable to everyone. Students can study in their native language up to class 5th.

This will help students who are not good at Hindi or English. They can study in their own regional language. This increases enrollment in schools and more students can get an education. A large number of students are from tribal backgrounds in different regions of India. They also have the right to education.

Multidisciplinary Education:

The education system had created a thick boundary between the arts and science streams. A student must have to study subjects that are available on the science stream. They can not study any arts subjects. Also, minor subjects are fixed. But in the New Education Policy, you can choose subjects from different areas. If you are a science stream student, you can also choose a subject from the arts stream. 

Multidisciplinary education helps students in developing a better understanding of their careers. If a field requires knowledge related to different streams, they can easily choose those related subjects. Therefore, students can easily move forward toward their goals through the new education system. They can develop all the required skills within their school and do not need to take admission in a separate course.

Partial Graduation Approach:

Sometimes students are compelled to drop their graduation in the second, third, or fourth year due to some reason. They studied hard at the beginning of their graduation but everything was wasted when they quit their graduation. So, to resolve this problem the New Education Policy has made a provision of partial graduation. If a candidate is unable to complete his graduation, they can continue from the same year where they left the course.

This new education scheme is very beneficial for students. Sometimes due to financial or some other reason, students can not complete their education. Now, they can take a break from the course and can resolve the issue. After that, they can take admission into the same year. This reduces the course fees and duration for previous candidates. Also, their hard work will remain safe.

One Conducting Authority:

This feature of the New Education Policy states that except for law and medical colleges all the courses will be regulated by HECI (Higher Education Commission of India). Therefore a single body will be responsible for all the events related to a course. This makes the different processes easy and under the control of one body.

Vocational Education:

The Old Education Policy was completely based on rote learning. Students have to learn facts and formulas without the knowledge of their use. This is not a suitable policy for a market that prefers skills rather than theoretical knowledge. The main aim of education should be giving all the knowledge and developing related skills related to their career.  This is a major change in the New Education Policy.

The new policy will give more stress on skills development. If a candidate wants to become an engineer, they should have sufficient knowledge and related skills. In the engineering course, they collect a lot of information but don’t know how to use it. Now, your marks also depend upon your skills. Therefore, you also have to give more stress to skills development.

Modified Board Exams Pattern:

The board exam pattern has remained the same for the last few decades. Only minor changes were made. The marking scheme and the important topics were common for all students of a few years. This makes the board exams more dependent on the remembering of facts and concepts. The board exams are considered as those which mainly focus on improving understanding of a subject rather than rote learning.

Now, in the New Education Policy, the board exams will have a different exam pattern and marking scheme. Also, important topics will be different. You have to understand the concepts rather than remember a few important questions in the new education system. This will increase the ability to view different aspects of a concept.

Digitalization:

The old education policy was developed at a time when there was no internet. So, most of the processes were available only through offline mode. Students have to visit the school management for everything. This will sometimes be time-consuming. So, the New Education Policy makes the whole education process online. This increases the number of students who get an education and improves the accessibility of knowledge.

Digitalization in education opens up several doors of opportunities. Students can easily communicate with their teachers as well as the board. The study material will be online accessible and cost-efficient. The board can also communicate with the students easily. Through digitalization, education can be provided to different parts of the country and every category of student.

Lok Vidya:

In European countries, some subjects teach students about their culture and heritage. They learn about their culture more from books than their ancestors. This helps in improving the knowledge of students about their own country. Also, this encourages their ancient techniques in different sectors. There is a similar modal in our New Education System that promotes our cultural heritage.

It teaches the ancient techniques practiced in our country which are vanishing from the modern world. The new education scheme helps students to learn about different practices and opportunities to make their careers. This ultimately improves our economy because we are using the resources which are originally developed in India. So, this is another important feature of the New Education Policy.

Fees:

Fees are an important factor while offering education to the students. Some schools are famous for their high school fees. They are providing the same education but at a very high price. In the old education policy, there was no provision regarding this. However, in the New Education Policy, every school will be investigated regularly. It will be checked that all the schools are asking genuine fees.

This will allow poor background students to get an education. Fees are the major reason why poor students are unable to study in any school. So, by reducing the fees of different courses the enrollment of students in all the courses will be increased.
