Engineering After 12th With Passing Marks 50%:

After completing 12th, most Science students believe BTech is the most sought-after degree to build a successful career. It indeed is.

But some students are not exactly sure if they would be able to opt for a B.Tech degree because they are not sure that they would get enough marks in the 10+2 board exams to become eligible for the course.

Many students have asked us during our counseling session - “Can I do B.tech after passing 12th with 50% marks?”.

Well, The answer is Yes, you are absolutely eligible to pursue a B.Tech course after 12th if you have scored 45% or higher marks in 10+2 board examinations.

However, you must pass in all the subjects with atleast 45% aggregate marks in all of the major subjects.

To know more about BTech Eligibility Criteria (Minimum percentage required for B.Tech admission), please continue reading this article…

B.Tech Eligibility Criteria 2023:

According to All India Technical Education (AICTE) which is the apex advisory body for technical education:

  • The candidate must obtain atleast 45% marks in three major subjects and 35% average in all subjects in order to apply for a B.Tech degree. This means that you need to score a minimum of 35% marks in all 5-6 subjects and 45% marks in the main subjects such as Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, or Biology.
  • This means that 45% aggregate marks in the 3 main subjects are the minimum 12th percentage required for the BTech course. If you are a reserved category student, then you’ll get a relaxation of 5% which means you need to score only 40% aggregate marks in the main subjects in 10+2.
  • According to new guidelines released by AICTE, you are eligible to apply for B.Tech admissions if you have studied any of three subjects Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics.

OR

Any three subjects from these 14 subjects: Informatics Science, Chemistry, Engineering Graphics, Technical Vocational Subject, Physics, Biotechnology, Agriculture, Entrepreneurship, Busines Studies, Information Technology, Biology, Mathematics, Electronics, and Computer Science.

However, the combination of Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics will remain compulsory for some branches of engineering such as Mechanical Engineering.

But the combination of these three subjects (PCM) will not be applicable to courses Like Agriculture engineering, Biotechnology, and many others.

  • BTech aspirants must obtain a minimum of 45% aggregate marks in the above-mentioned subjects to become eligible for B.Tech admissions.
