Details of AKTU B.Tech Entrance Exam:

The university clearly stated in an official written announcement that from the academic year 2023, the university will accept JEE-Mains only to provide B. Tech admissions which means to get admission to the B.Tech course in AKTU and other colleges of U.P state, the candidate has to apply through NTA’s JEE Main entrance exam.

However, admission to other courses such as B.Des./B. Pharm./BHMCT/BFAD/BFA/B. Voc./will be done through UPCET. For the record, the full form of UPCET is Uttar Pradesh Combined Entrance Test. As the name suggests, it is a state-level entrance examination conducted to offer admissions to various UG and PG courses offered by AKTU and its affiliated colleges.

By qualifying UPSEE B.Tech entrance exam, the candidates used to get admission to the U.P Technical University (AKTU) or in its affiliated colleges but since it has been scrapped, the candidates now have to appear in the national B.Tech entrance JEE-Mains conducted by NTA. Here is the snapshot of AKTU’s official notice for the scrapping of the UPSEE Entrance exam 2023 for B.Tech Admissions 2023:

  • UPSEE/UPCET is no longer valid for B.Tech admissions in AKTU and its affiliated colleges.
  • AKTU B.Tech Admissions 2023 will be completely based on the scores obtained by the candidate in the JEE-Mains entrance exam followed by AKTU counseling.

About JEE-Main:

JEE-Main is a national level B.Tech entrance exam conducted by NTA to offer admissions to various UG Engineering programs such as B.Tech, B.E, B.Plan, and B.Arch. The JEE-Main scores are accepted by the top engineering colleges in India to offer B.Tech seats to the students.

Why AKTU's UPSEE Exam is Replaced by the NTA's JEE-Main Entrance Exam?

  • Replacing UPSEE with JEE-Main has been a matter of discussion for years. The verdict has been finally made to scrap the UPSEE B.Tech entrance exam and to use only JEE-Main scores to fill the B.Tech seats in all the colleges of Uttar Pradesh state.  The decision has been made to make entrance exam preparations for students easier as they have to prepare for both UPSEE and JEE Main separately.
  • JEE Mains scores are accepted by most of the colleges across various states but before the students of Uttar Pradesh had to appear in the UPSEE B.Tech Entrance exam to get B.Tech admission in U.P. Many candidates have to appear in UPSEE as well as JEE-Mains to keep their options open. But now, this decision will save the students a lot of time, effort, and preparation and will lift up the pressure from their shoulders as they now have to prepare for only one entrance exam for their B.Tech admissions.
  • JEE-Main is conducted twice a year which allows the students to attempt the exam two times. It gives them the benefit of scoring well the second time, The first exam is conducted in the month of January and the second in April. In case a student has not scored well on the 1st attempt, he/she can take another attempt in April to improve their scores.
