OSSTET Exam 2024 Eligibility criteria

Eligibility criteria for the Odisha Secondary School Teacher Eligibility Test (OSSTET) 2024 for both Paper I and II, in terms of educational qualification and age limit, are outlined as follows:

Educational Qualification:

Paper I:

1. Trained Graduate Arts:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Arts/Commerce with a minimum score of 50%. OR
  • Bachelor in Education (B.Ed) or 3-year integrated B.Ed.-M.Ed from an NCTE Recognized Institution. OR
  • integrated four-year B.A.B.Ed. program from an NCTE-approved university.

2. Trained Graduate Science (PCM/CBZ):

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Science/B.Tech/B.E. with a minimum of 50% marks. OR
  • Bachelor in Education (B.Ed) or 3-year integrated B.Ed.-M.Ed from an NCTE Recognized Institution. OR
  • integrated four-year B.A.B.Ed. programme from an NCTE-approved university.

3. Hindi Teacher:

  • Bachelor’s degree with Hindi as a subject and a minimum of 50% marks.
  • any one of the designated training credentials.

4. Classical Teacher (Sanskrit):

  • Bachelor’s Degree with Sanskrit as a subject and a minimum of 50% marks. OR
  • Sikshya Shastri (Sanskrit) from a Recognised University/Institution. OR
  • Shastri (Sanskrit) with 50% marks and Sikshya Shastri (Sanskrit) from a Recognised University/Institution.

5. Classical Teacher (Urdu):

  • Alim with a minimum of 50% marks. OR
  • B.Ed./Urdu B.Ed. from an NCTE Recognised University/Institution. OR
  • B.A. (Persian) with 50% marks and B.Ed./Urdu B.Ed. from an NCTE Recognised University/Institution.

6. Classical Teacher (Telugu):

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Arts with Telugu as a subject and a minimum of 50% marks. OR
  • Telugu B.Ed. from a University/Institution recognized by NCTE.

Paper II:

1. Physical Education Teacher:

  • +2 or its equivalent examination with a minimum of 50% marks.
  • C.P.Ed./B.P.Ed./M.P.Ed. from a recognized Board/University.

Age Limit:

Prospective candidates need to be aware of the defined age limits set by the Board of Secondary Education, Odisha, for eligibility to apply for the OSSTET exam. Only candidates falling within the specified age range are permitted to participate in the examination. Candidates must be below the age of 32 and above 21 as of September 1, 2023. 

However, certain relaxations apply to the upper age limit: a 5-year relaxation for SC/ST, female, and SEBC candidates, and a 10-year relaxation for PH candidates. The age limit for ex-servicemen is determined by G.A. Notification number 22586/Gen. and is subject to the rules and guidelines of the Government of Odisha currently in effect.
