IIT Madras Admission Process 2026:

IIT Madras offers admission to its programmes through national-level entrance exams. The institute does not conduct separate entrance tests — all admissions go through centralized processes.

B.Tech Admission

Admission to B.Tech requires clearing JEE Main followed by JEE Advanced. Seat allotment happens through JoSAA counselling. The closing rank for IIT Madras Computer Science typically falls within the top 150 in the General category. Other popular branches like Electrical close around rank 500, and Mechanical around rank 1000.

Dual Degree (B.Tech + M.Tech)

IIT Madras offers integrated Dual Degree programmes (5 years) in select departments. Admission is also through JEE Advanced. These programmes allow students to earn both a B.Tech and M.Tech degree with one additional year of study.

M.Tech Admission

M.Tech admission requires a valid GATE score. Shortlisted candidates may be called for an interview depending on the department. Selection is based on GATE score, academic record, and interview performance.

MBA Admission (DoMS)

The Department of Management Studies (DoMS) at IIT Madras admits students based on CAT score. Shortlisted candidates go through a written ability test, group discussion, and personal interview. The typical CAT percentile cutoff is around 95+.

M.Sc Admission

M.Sc admissions are through IIT JAM in subjects like Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics.

Ph.D Admission

Ph.D admissions happen twice a year (July and January sessions). Candidates with GATE, UGC-NET, or CSIR-NET scores are eligible. The selection process involves a written test and interview. Monthly fellowship of Rs. 31,000 to Rs. 35,000 is provided.
