IIM Calcutta's admission process is multi-stage and highly selective. Only 1 in 100+ applicants who take CAT with IIMC as a preference end up getting a seat.
Step 1 — CAT Score: Take the Common Admission Test (November-December). IIMC shortlist typically requires 99+ percentile in General, around 95+ for OBC-NC, 80+ for SC, and 60+ for ST.
Step 2 — Shortlisting: Based on CAT score, sectional scores, 10th marks, 12th marks, graduation percentage, and work experience. IIMC values academic consistency heavily — a dip in any stage can hurt your chances.
Step 3 — WAT & PI: Shortlisted candidates attend a Written Ability Test (essay on a current topic) and Personal Interview. The PI at IIMC is known for being thorough — panels probe your domain knowledge, career clarity, leadership experiences, and awareness of business and economics.
Step 4 — Final Merit: Composite score from CAT (30-35%), academics (25-30%), WAT+PI (25-30%), work experience (5-10%), and diversity factors.
Requires minimum 5 years of full-time professional experience. Accepts GMAT (preferred) or GRE/CAT scores. Selection through application review, essays, and interview. Average batch profile: 8-10 years experience.
Requires CAT/GMAT/GRE/GATE/UGC-NET score. Selection through research proposal, written test, and interview. Monthly fellowship of Rs. 40,000+ provided.
