What is the IES Exam? (Overview)
Indian Engineering Services (IES), also known by the name Engineering Services Examination (ESE), is an exam conducted with the purpose of recruiting engineers by the Indian government for technical operations. Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) is the conducting body responsible for organizing the exam in a proper manner.
The syllabus of the exam changes according to the four categories, including civil engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, electronics, electronics and telecommunication engineering.
The selection process takes place in three different stages:
Stage 1 - Preliminary Exam
The preliminary stage has papers 1 and paper 2. Paper one evaluates the engineering aptitude and general studies. The maximum time allotted to complete paper one is two hours. The maximum marks that can be scored in Paper 1 are 200 marks.
