There are three types of engineering entrance exams after the 12th - National Level entrance exam, State level entrance exams, and Institute/University level entrance exam.

Here’s the description of these three:

  1. National Level entrance exam: These tests are conducted on a national level and their exam scores are accepted by colleges located all over India. The exam centers are also located in different cities of every state in India. JEE-Mains, JEE-Advance, NATA are the top National engineering entrance exams in India.
  2. State-level entrance exams: are held within states to give admissions into the state's government and private colleges. JEE-Main Exam:

JEE-Mains: Eligibility Criteria

  • The age limit for the JEE-Mains entrance exam is 25 years which means that the candidate must not be older than 25 years according to October 23rd. The candidates belonging to SC/ST/PwD categories will be given a relaxation of 5 years which means the age criteria for these candidates is 30 years. The age criteria will be considered valid according to the date of birth mentioned in the Secondary Education Board certificate.
  • The candidates must complete their higher secondary education with atleast 50% marks in Physics and Mathematics along with the optional subjects.
  • Candidates must have studied any one of these - Chemistry, Computer Science, Biotechnology, or  Biology as the optional subjects.

JEE-Advanced 2025:

  • The JEE-Advanced entrance examination is the second stage of JEE entrance exam. JEE-Advanced is also another national level entrance examination conducted by seven zonal IITs in association with Joint Admission Board (JAB).

BITSAT Exam:

The full form of BITSAT is the Birla Institute of Technology & Science Admission Test. It is a national-level entrance test conducted every year by the renowned BITS Pilani institute to offer admissions in the BE program offered by the BITS campuses located in Pilani, Goa, and Hyderabad. It is one of the best Engineering Entrance Exams for Engineering Courses After 12th.

BITSAT 2025 dates will be announced soon. On average, more than 3 lakh candidates appear in the BITSAT entrance exam every year.

BITSAT: Eligibility Criteria

  • Candidates must have passed the 12th examination of 10+2 system from a recognized Central or State board or its equivalent with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics (PCM) as main subjects and adequate proficiency in English.
  • The candidate must have scored a minimum of aggregate 75% marks in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics subjects (if he/she has taken Mathematics in BITSAT) or a minimum of aggregate 75% marks in Physics, Chemistry, and Biology subjects (if he/she has taken Biology in BITSAT) subjects in 12th examination, with at least 60% marks in each of the Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics / Biology subjects.

VITEEE Exam:

Vellore Institute of Technology Engineering Entrance Examination is an institute-level entrance exam yet one of the most popular B.tech entrance examinations in India.  VIT, Vellore is one of the leading private engineering colleges in India and it has other campuses located at Vellore, Chennai, Bhopal, and Amravati.VITEEE 2025 will be held online. The exam dates for VITEEE 2025 have not been announced yet.

VITEEE : Eligibility Critreria

  • The age limit to appear in VITEEE 2025 is 21 years.
  • The candidate must have passed Class 12th from the State Board or Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE, New Delhi) or Council for Indian School Certificate Examination (ISCE), New Delhi.
  • Candidates appearing for the VITEEE in 2025 should have secured a minimum aggregate of 60% in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics/Biology in the qualifying examination (10+2 examinations).
  • Candidates belonging to SC/ST Community or Candidates hailing from Jammu and Kashmir/ Ladakh and the North-Eastern states of Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim, and Tripura must score atleast minimum of 50% in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics.

MHT CET Exam:

5. Maharashtra Common Entrance Test (MHT CET) is conducted by the DTE (Directorate of Technical Education), Maharashtra MHT-CET. It is a state-level entrance exam held for admission to B.E/B.Tech courses are offered by public and private engineering colleges in Maharashtra. MHT CET 2025 is expected to be held in the 2nd week of May but the delay in the current academic session may lead to the postponement of the exam dates.

MHT CET: Eligibility Criteria

  • There are no upper or lower age limit criteria for MHT-CET.
  • The candidates must score atleast 45% aggregate marks in Passed HSC or its equivalent examination with compulsory subjects of Physics and Mathematics along with Chemistry/Biotechnology/Biology/Computer Science/ IT/Agriculture/Engineering Graphics/Business Studies/ Technical Vocational subject Or Passed Diploma in Engineering and Technology. Candidates belonging to SC/ST/PwD category must score 40% aggregate score in the same.

NATA Exam:

NATA also known as the National Aptitude Test in Architecture, is a national-level entrance test conducted by the Council of Infrastructure to offer admission to the Bachelor in Architecture courses offered by the engineering colleges in India.

It is held twice every year. NATA scores are compulsory to pursue a B.Arch course in India. NATA 2025 will be held in April 2025 and June 2025 and the application process is expected to begin in February or March 2025.

NATA: Eligibility Criteria

  • Candidate must have completed his/her higher secondary education in the Science stream with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics as compulsory subjects.
  • Candidate must have passed or appearing in 10+2 with PCM or 10+3 (Diploma after 10th) with Mathematics as compulsory subjects.
  • A minimum of 50% aggregate is required in the qualifying examination.

KEAM Exam:

KEAM is Kerala state's entrance exam which is also known as the Kerala Engineering Architecture Medical entrance test. KEAM is conducted by the Commissioner of Entrance examinations. As the name suggests, the entrance exam is conducted to offer admission to engineering, dentistry, and other medicine courses.

Many governments and private colleges in Kerala accept KEAM scores to offer admissions to the various engineering, architecture, and medicine programs.

KEAM: Eligibility Criteria

  • The candidate must have scored at least 50% aggregate and At Least 50% marks in Mathematics.

SRMJEEE Exam:

SRMJEEE is a university-level entrance exam conducted by SRM Group of Institution. The campuses of SRM Group are located at Kattankulathur, Ramapuram, NCR - Ghaziabad, Ramapuram Part - Vadapalani, Amravati, Haryana, and Sikkim. SRMJEEE 2025 will be held online across more than 100 test centers in India and a few centers in Middle-east.

SRMJEEE: Eligibility Criteria

  • Minimum 50% aggregate marks in 10+2 board examination with Chemistry/ Biotechnology/ Biology/ Technical Vocational subject/ Computer Science/ Information Technology/ Informatics Practices/ Agriculture/ Engineering Graphics/ Business Studies.
  • The 10+2 must be completed from any state board within India, CBSE, ISCE, Matriculation, or NIOS.

ITSAT Exam

ITSAT is also known as ICFAI Tech School Admission Test, it is conducted by ICFAI, Hyderabad to shortlist candidates for admissions to B.E/B.Tech courses are offered by the 5 campuses of ICFAI located at Hyderabad, Jaipur, Dehradun, Jharkhand, and Raipur.

ITSAT 2025 will be held from June 13 to June 25, 2025. The exam centers of ITSAT 2025 will be located in over 100 cities across various states of India.

ITSAT: Eligibility Criteria

  • The candidate must have scored a minimum of 60% aggregate marks in the qualifying examination with Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, and English as mandatory subjects in 10+2 (higher secondary level).
  • If the aspirants are still appearing in the higher secondary exams or waiting for the final result, then he/she is also eligible for the ITSAT entrance test.
  • The candidate must be a citizen of India.

COMEDK Exam:

COMEDK UGET is a state-level entrance examination conducted by the Consortium of Medical Engineering and Dental Colleges of Karnataka. COMEDK UGET is considered a gateway for engineering admissions in Karnataka as the COMEDK exam scores are accepted by more than 120 colleges in the state.

The exam is expected to be held in the month of June or July 2025. The COMEDK application process will start in the third week of April 2025.

COMEDK: Eligibility Criteria

  • Candidates must have passed their 10+2 board examinations with Physics, Chemistry Mathematics, and English as mandatory subjects.
  • Applicants belonging to the general category should have passed the qualifying examination with at least 45% aggregate marks in PCM.
  • The candidate must score a minimum of 45% aggregate marks in the qualifying examinations with PCM as mandatory subjects. Candidates belonging to ST/SC category will be provided 5% relaxation and hence he/she must have scored only 40% score in the qualifying examinations.

AP EAPCET Exam:

AP EAPCET is a UG entrance exam conducted every year by Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University, Karnataka. By appearing in this state-level entrance exam, candidates can get admission to Engineering, Agriculture, and Pharmacy courses offered by reputed institutions in Andhra Pradesh.

The state records the participation of more than 2 lakh candidates in the AP EAPCET entrance exam. This state-level exam is conducted in an online mode.

AP EAPCET: Eligibility Criteria

  • The applicant must have passed 10+2 with a minimum aggregate of 45% marks along with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics as main subjects or equivalent exams from a recognized board of Andhra Pradesh. The candidate holding a Diploma in Engineering is also eligible to appear in the exam.
  • The minimum age limit for AP EAPCET is 17 years as or on 31st December of the year of admission and the maximum age limit is 22 years for General category students however the maximum age limit for SC/ST category candidates is 25 years.
  • Applicants must be citizens of India/POI /Overseas Citizens of India (OCI card holders)  and must belong to Andhra Pradesh state.

WBJEE Exam:

WBJEE (West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination) is also a state entrance exam conducted to provide admissions to Engineering & Technology, Architecture, and Pharmacy courses offered at the undergraduate level by Government and private colleges in West Bengal state.

Last year more than 65,000 candidates appeared in the state entrance exam.WBJEE will be held on April 23rd, 2025. The last application date was January 16th, 2025. It is  one of the top engineering entrance exams after 12th for the students who reside in West Bengal.

If you want to get admission to a reputed institution in West Bengal, then you will have to wait for WBJEE 2025 notifications which will be tentatively released in December 2025.

WBJEE: Eligibility Criteria

  • The applicants must be atleast 17 years old as of 31st December 2025 however there is no upper limit for appearing in the WBJEE Entrance exam.
  • Candidates must have passed 10+2 or its equivalent from any recognized board with atleast 45% aggregate marks in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics (40% for SC, ST, OBC-A, OBC-B, PwD). These three are the mandatory subjects the candidate must study in their 10+2 or equivalent course of study.
  • The candidate must hold a domicile of West Bengal to get admission to the state universities such as Jadavpur University and Aliah University.

KCET Exam:

KCET (Karnataka Common Entrance Test) is another state-level entrance exam conducted by Karnataka Examination Authority. KCET is conducted for the admissions to the UG level courses offered in the field of Engineering, Pharmacy Agriculture, and Veterinary. KCET entrance exam will be held in the month of July or August  2025 and the application process hasn't started yet. It is expected to be released soon.

KCET: Eligibility Criteria

  • The applicant must be an Indian Citizen.
  • The applicants must be at least 17 years old.
  • The applicant must obtain a minimum of 45% marks in the qualifying examination.
  • Applicants must complete 10+2 or equivalent with Physics and Mathematics as mandatory subjects and any one of Chemistry/Biotechnology/Electronics/Computer. The candidates also must study English in the qualifying examination.

OJEE Exam:

OJEE (Odisha Joint Entrance Examination) is a state-level entrance examination conducted by Odisha Joint Entrance Examination Committee formed by the Odisha government. The entrance exam is conducted once a year to offer admissions to various courses such as B.Tech, MBA, B.Pharm, MCA, M.Tech, M.Arch.

However, it is popularly known as one of the most popular engineering entrance exams after 12th in India. Candidates who are seeking to pursue a B.Tech/B.E course from an institution in Odisha should appear in this state entrance exam.

OJEE: Eligibility Criteria

  • The applicant must be an Indian citizen, NRIO and PRIO candidates can also apply for the OJEE entrance exam however their admission will completely depend on the availability of the supernumerary seats.
  • There is no age limit for OJEE except B.Tech in Marine Engineering, If a candidate wants to apply for this course, then his age shouldn't exceed 22 years.
  • The applicant must have completed 10+2 or 10+3 (Diploma in Engineering) from any recognized institution/board.
  • The candidate must obtain a minimum of 45% aggregate marks in Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics/Biology, and one language subject in the qualifying examinations. The candidates belonging to the reserved category need only 40% aggregate marks in the qualifying examinations.

CUSAT CAT Exam:

CUSAT CAT university level entrance exam conducted by the very popular Cochin University of Science and Technology. The exam is conducted to shortlist the candidates for admission to various UG and PG programs including the B.Tech course.

The candidates who wish to apply for admissions to such an esteemed university can apply for CUSAT 2025 by visiting the official website of the university admissions.cusat.ac.in. The CUSAT Common Admission Test will be held in the month of July 2025 (tentatively).

CUSAT CAT: Eligibility Criteria

  • Candidates must have passed 10+2 with a minimum of 50% marks in Physics Chemistry and Mathematics. These three are compulsory subjects for B.Tech admissions. Please note that candidates who have a backlog in the board exam are not eligible to apply for the CUSAT entrance exam.

AUEET Exam:

AUEET is also known as Andhra University Engineering Test is conducted by the Directorate of Admissions of Andhra University. Like AP EAPCET, it is also a state-level entrance exam conducted to offer admissions to engineering courses which is the integrated program (B.Tech+M.Tech).

The exam centers of AUEET are located across 3 cities of the state. The AUEET 2025 exam is expected to be held in the month of June or July this year. Candidates who want to pursue integrated engineering programs from Andra University should appear in this state entrance exam.

AUEET: Eligibility Criteria

  • Candidates should have passed Class 12th  from a recognized State or Central Board.
  • The candidates Should have studied Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics at 10+2 level and secured a minimum of 50% aggregate marks in 10+2 board examinations.

KIITEE Exam:

KIITEE (Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology Entrance Examination) is an institute-level entrance test conducted by the Kalinga Institute of Information Technology. KIIT is one of the top-ranking engineering colleges, It has been awarded grade "A" by NAAC. If you want to pursue a B.Tech course from a reputed college but had a low JEE-Main score or missed the entrance test somehow, the KIITEE is a good option for you to turn the odds in your favor.

KIITEE: Eligibility Criteria

  • A candidate must have passed 10+2 or equivalent with a minimum of 60% marks in the subject Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics.
  • The candidate must not be older than 24 years as of 1 July 1998.

IMU-CET Exam;

IMU-CET is a university-based entrance exam conducted by Maritime University to provide admission in UG, PG, and P.h.D courses in the discipline of Science and Technology. IMU CET 2025 exam will test candidates’ knowledge in Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, GK, and aptitude.

IMU CET 2025 will be conducted in the first week of July 2025. The UG engineering courses offered by this university are BTech in Marine Engineering (4 years) and BTech in Naval Architecture & Ocean Engineering (4 years). Candidates who are interested to pursue a Marine course should appear in the IMU-CET Entrance exam as it is one of the most popular marine engineering entrance exams after the 12th.

IMU CET : Eligibility Criteria

  • Candidates applying for engineering (lateral also)/B.Sc/Diploma/ courses must have studied and passed an examination in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics at plus two levels with a minimum 60% in aggregate. They would also be required to score a minimum of 50% marks in English at plus two levels.
  • The candidate must have a passport or should apply for a passport before taking admission through IMU-CET.
  • The minimum age of the candidate should be 17 years and the Maximum age should not exceed 25 years.
  • Candidates applying to marine courses would be required to produce the medical fitness certified by Doctors approved by the Director-General of Shipping.
