About JNVST
JNVST or the Jawahar Navodaya Selection Test for Class 6 is conducted for the admission of children from the rural areas to Navodaya Vidyalaya of a particular district. The exam is conducted by CBSE and the admission forms are distributed free of cost.
The exam is held so that the meritorious children of the district can get admission free of cost. The medium of instruction for the Navodaya Class 6 exam is the regional language or mother tongue of the student.
Eligibility Criteria for Navodaya Class 6th: Notification 2025
- Candidates of all categories (including Scheduled castes and scheduled tribes) of the age group of 9 to 13 years are eligible for admission.
- Candidates must have passed classes 3, 4, and 5 from a Government recognized school and spend one complete academic year in a rural school. Candidates who have failed to get admission to Class 5 before 30th September cannot get admission.
- Candidates can appear for the JNVST Selection Test only once and no candidate is allowed to take the Navodaya Class 6 Admission test twice.
- Candidates who have got a “B” Certificate competency course from the National Institute of Open Schooling are also eligible for the exam. These candidates must meet the age criteria for the exams. Schools from which the candidates have acquired the “B” Certificate must be accredited by the NIOS. The selection of the candidate for the “B” Certificate competency depends on the qualification in Class 5. The rural status of the candidate from NIOS will be decided by the Tehsildar/District Magistrate of the District implying that the child has been residing in the rural area for 3 years.
- Candidates who have studied in an urban school even for a single day for classes 3, 4, and 5 will be considered as urban area candidates as per Government notification 2011.

Navodaya Class 6 Exam Seat Reservation Criteria 2025
- 75% of the seats are reserved for the rural areas, while the remaining 25% are reserved for the urban area candidates.
- One-third of the total seats for the Navodaya Class 6 exam are reserved for the girl child.
- The distribution of seats for the children who apply for the JNVST exam in the SC/ST categories will be proportional to the population of the particular district. If the particular district will be subject to 50% of reservation of both the categories taken together.
- The reservation criteria can be changed for candidates applying for admission under open merit.
- 0.3% of seats are reserved for disabled children (hearing impaired/visually handicapped/orthopedically handicapped).
Reservation Criteria for Rural Students
- A minimum of 75% of the seats will be filled up by the candidates of the rural area and the remaining 25% of the seats will be filled by the candidates of the urban area.
- Candidates applying for admission under the rural quota must have qualified the Classes 3, 4, and 5 from a Government school/Government recognized school in a rural area. Candidates who have completed their full academic year from a rural school are also eligible for admission.
- Candidates who have studied at the National Institute of Open schooling must get their rural status Certificate from the District Magistrate/Block Development Officer/Tehsildar.
Reservation Criteria for Urban Students
The urban quota candidature is valid for all those candidates who have studied in classes 3,4 or 5 even for a single day in an urban school (urban schools are defined by the 2011 census or Government notification).
JNVST Admission form 2025
The Navodaya Class 6 Admission Form 2025 is available online and the medium of instruction for the exam is Regional language. The Navodaya authorities have eased the admission process by making it online. Selected candidates have to undergo detailed verification of age, eligibility, residence proof, etc.
The Online form will be released on the official website (navodaya.gov.in)and students or their parents can fill the form and submit it with the requisite documents on the official website. The submission of the form on the official website will be free of charge.
Steps to Apply for Navodaya Class 6 Admission Online by Students/Guardians
- Visit the official website of the Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti.
- A login window titled “New Registration will open on the screen.
- Click the link and select the state and district from which you want to apply for admission.
- Tap on the “Proceed” button.
- The Navodaya Class 6 Admission Form 2025 will appear on the screen.
- Fill in all the details of the Admission Form carefully.
- Upload necessary documents and photographs in the required format.
- Fill in all the academic details of the student and click the “Proceed” button.
- Upload copies of your signature in the given format.
- Click the submit button.
- Download the confirmation page and store the Application Form and the password till the Admission process is complete.
Steps for Navodaya Class 6 Admission 2025 through Common Service Center
- Eligible candidates have to approach the Common Service center along with their parents or guardians along with the Certificate attested by the HeadMaster of the school in which the candidate has studied up to Class 5. The format of the Certificate can be downloaded from the official website of the Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti.
- Candidates who have qualified the Class 5 from Open Schooling must have the “B” Certificate and Residence proof in the same district in which he/she wants to take admission.
- The entire processing of the Navodaya JNVST for Class 6 will be done by the Common Service Center, Ministry of IT, Government of India. The Common Service center will upload the Application form of the candidate free of charge.
JNVST Navodaya Class 6 Notification 2025 Help Desk
A JNVST Help Desk is also available to help the candidates in the registration process. The Help Desk is ready to assist the parents whose ward wants to apply for the JNVST Admission.
The necessary documents required to approach the help desk are a Photograph of the candidate, a Registered Mobile number for sending SMS, and Certificate signed by the Headmaster of the school.

Navodaya Class 6th Notification 2025 Exam Pattern
- The Navodaya Class 6 exam will be conducted in the offline OMR-based mode.

Navodaya Class 6 Notification 2025 Admit Card
The JNVST Navodaya Class 6 selection Admit Card will be released in the online mode. Eligible candidates who have filled in the application form carefully and submitted all the necessary documents can download their Admit Card from the official website.
The Navodaya Class 6 Admit Card is the most important document that the candidate must carry to the exam hall. The Admit Card contains all the important information about the candidate like the name of the candidate, the roll number of the candidate, the exam center's name and address, and important instructions.
Navodaya Class 6 Answer Key 2025
The Navodaya Selection Committee will not release the Answer Key for the exams. The Answer Key may however be released by some coaching centers and candidates who have appeared for the exams can make an estimate of their scores through the Navodaya Class 6 Answer Key.

The prospective date for the release of the JNVST Navodaya Result is March 2025. Candidates who have appeared for the exam can check their results in Online mode. Selected candidates will be informed of their status through their school Principal, speed post, and also SMS on the Registered Mobile number.
