What are the Key Difference between JEE Mains and Advance?

IIT JEE is a national-level entrance exam conducted by NTA ( National Testing Agency ) for admission to various IIT colleges. It is considered one of the most difficult entrance exams conducted yearly, and only 25 to 30% of candidates achieve success.

There are two levels of the IIT JEE exam which are JEE Mains and JEE Advance and the candidates need to clear the required levels to get admission to their dream college. The JEE mains are conducted for admissions to various engineering colleges and the JEE Advance is specifically designed for the prestigious IIT colleges.

Exam Purpose

Given below are the reasons for the conduction of two different levels of Join Entrance Exam.

  • JEE Main - The JEE Mains exam can be pursued by individuals who want to get admission to various undergraduate courses in prestigious NIT and IIIT colleges. They can also secure admission to top BTech, and Barch institutions in India. It is mandatory to clear the JEE Main exam to become eligible for the advanced level.
  • JEE Advance - The JEE advanced level is specifically conducted for admissions to prestigious IIT colleges in various undergraduate engineering courses. Only the top rankers of the exam will be eligible for admission.

Exam Eligibility

Aspirants must check their eligibility before appearing for any level of the JEE exam, given below is a basic guidance for the eligibility criteria.

  • JEE Main - The individuals who want to appear for the Mains exam must complete their 12th standard from a recognized board with 75% or above grades in relevant subjects. The exam can only be pursued by individuals who have cleared their 12th in the last two years.
  • JEE Advance - To be eligible for the JEE Advance individuals must clear the JEE Main level with good and acceptable rank. The aspirants must have completed their 12th standard in the last two years to appear for the JEE Advance.

Number of Attempts

Mentioned below are the number of attempts given to an individual for both levels of the exam.

  • JEE Main - The exam is conducted twice a year which makes it easy for the applicants to get multiple attempts, the individuals are provided 6 number of attempts for the JEE Mains exam.
  • JEE Advance - There are more restrictions in the JEE Advance exam individuals are given two attempts. The advanced exam is conducted one time in a year which makes it a bit difficult for the individuals to clear.
