Eligibility Criteria for Teaching Exam 2025

For Primary Level

  • Intermediate (or its equivalent) with at least 50% marks and passed or appearing in the final year of a 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education.
  • Cleared class 12th (or its equivalent) with at least 45% marks and passed or appeared in the final year of a 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education.
  • Passed out the 12th standard (or its equivalent) with at least 50% marks and passed or appeared in the final year of 4 years of Bachelor of Elementary Education (B.El.Ed).
  • Cleared class 12th (or its equivalent) with at least 50% marks and passed or appeared in the final year of a 2-year Diploma in Education.
  • Graduation and passing the final year of a 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education.

For Upper Primary Level

  • Completed Graduation and passed (or appeared) in the final year of a 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education.
  • Completed Graduation with a minimum of 50% marks. Passed or appearing in 1 year Bachelor in Education (B.Ed).
  • Completed Graduation with a minimum of 45% marks. Passed or appearing in 1 year Bachelor in Education (B.Ed).
  • Intermediate with at least 50% marks and passed or appearing in the final year of 4 years Bachelor in Elementary Education (B.El.Ed)
  • Senior Secondary (or it's equivalent) with a minimum of 50% marks and passed or appearing in the final year of 4-year B.A/B.Sc.Ed or B.A.Ed/B.Sc.Ed.
  • Passed graduation with at least 50% marks. Passed or appearing in 1st year B.Ed.

TET Entrance Exam (Teacher Eligibility Test)

TET Entrance Exam is a teaching exam for candidates who want to be teachers in government or private schools. This is a state-level exam. Every state conducts its own teaching exam. 

The TET entrance exam is divided into 2 parts - Exam 1 and Exam 2. This teaching exam is taken by both the Central government and the State government of India. Exam 1 is for the candidates who want to teach students from classes I to V.

Exam 2 is for candidates who want to teach students from classes VI to VIII. Candidates can choose their own exam.

1. Central Teachers Eligibility Test (CTET)

Central Teachers Eligibility Test (CTET) is a teaching exam at the National Level. This teaching exam is conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) for the selection of eligible and skilled candidates for the teaching profession in all Central Government Schools.

Earlier, CBSE used to conduct the CTET exam. There are two levels to this paper. Aspirants who clear paper-I will get to teach (class I-V) & who qualify for Paper II will get to teach (class VI-VIII). Every year the exam is conducted in the month of July. 

The aspirants who successfully qualify for this teaching exam can teach in any government & private school referred to in the clause of section 2 of the RTE Act. The question paper comprises multiple-choice questions.

The candidates who are eligible are advised to read all the guidelines mentioned by the NCTE before applying for CTET from the official website. The application form will be available on the official website of the board.

2. UPTET

Uttar Pradesh Teacher Eligibility Test (UPTET) is a teaching exam that is conducted once a year. When the online application process is completed, applicants check the notification of important dates that are given on the official website of the board.

This teaching exam is organized by the Uttar Pradesh State Government and its notification will be published officially on the portal. So, interested applicants can appear for this teaching exam.

Uttar Pradesh Basic Educational Board (UPBEB) is the sanctioned body that is responsible to conduct the UPTET Exam. The UP State Government announces the official UPTET Exam Date on its official site.

This teaching exam is conducted in the month of December. Candidates who meet the eligibility criteria can apply online and fill out the UPTET application form on or before the deadline.

UPTET is organized in the month of December. The exam pattern for this teacher eligibility test is such that it comprises two exams, Paper I and Paper II.

3. West Bengal Teacher Eligibility Test (WBTET)

West Bengal Central School Service Commission is the conducting body for WB TET. This teaching exam is conducted to shortlist candidates to teach in schools in West Bengal. The WB TET exam is organized as per the National Council for Teachers’ Education (NCTE) guidelines.

West Bengal Teacher Eligibility Test (WB TET) encompasses 150 multiple-choice questions which aspirants need to attempt in 90 minutes duration. WB TET is of two papers. Paper-I is for the candidates who want to teach students of Class I-V and Paper II is for Upper Primary Teachers, i.e., for the candidates who want to teach students from Class VI to VIII.

4. Haryana Teacher Eligibility Test (HTET)

HTET is Haryana Teacher Eligibility Test which is a teaching exam at the state-level. This teaching exam is organized to recruit teacher in the State of Haryana. HTET is conducted by the Haryana Board of School Education. This is the online mode of examination and candidates can check the notification on the official website of the board.

The establishment of Board of School Education Haryana was laid down in 1969. Formerly, it was recognised as the Haryana Board of School Education [HBSE]. It has the agreement for regulating the Haryana TET Examinations at Middle, Matric and Senior Secondary School levels every year in the Haryana state. Haryana Board recruit the eligible candidates for various teaching posts through this teaching exam, i.e., HTET Exam.

HTET Exam is conducted to check the candidate's aptitude and ability to meet the growing challenges faced by teachers in schools like primary, elementary and at senior secondary levels.

5. Rajasthan TET

Rajasthan TET Exam (RTET) is a teaching exam at the state-level. This teaching exam is conducted by the Board of Secondary Education every year. This exam is conducted in order to recruit candidates for the position of teachers in any government and private schools of Rajasthan.

There are two papers that a candidate can apply for. Paper I is for the candidates who want to teach students from class 1 to 5 while paper II is for the students who want to teach students from class VI to VIII. 

Rajasthan TET Exam is of 90 minutes having 150 questions. Candidates will be awarded +1 mark for each correct response, however, there are no negative marks for any wrong or unattempted answer.

6. Odisha TET

Odisha Teachers Eligibility Test (OTET) is organized by the Board of Secondary Education Cuttack to recruit the candidates for the post of the teachers for Classes I to VIII in government, private aided, and private unaided schools in the state of Odisha.

It is a teaching exam for the candidates and the applicants who clear this exam will get the eligibility for Teacher Recruitment Test (TRT) held by the state government.

To recruit as a teacher for class 1 to 8 in schools of the state (Odisha) qualifying OTET is compulsory. This teaching exam is of two levels: Primary level and Upper primary level.

This teaching exam follows certain rules and regulations under the central regulatory authorities. The candidates can go for the registration process, after checking the eligibility criteria.

7. Andhra Pradesh Teacher Eligibility Test (APTET)

Andhra Pradesh Teacher Eligibility Test (APTET) is a teaching exam at the State Level. This teaching exam is conducted by the Department of School Education, Government of Andhra Pradesh to ensure National Standards.

It is a benchmark of Teacher quality in the recruitment process according to the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE). APTET is organized by the Department of School Education, Government of Andhra Pradesh.

Andhra Pradesh Teacher Eligibility Test is a State Level Entrance Test that is conducted in Andhra Pradesh every year. This teaching exam is conducted in the month of June.

APTET is conducted online i.e. Computer-based Test (CBT) in 13 different districts in the state of Andhra Pradesh.

The question paper of APTET encompasses 2 papers i.e. Paper I and Paper II where Paper II is further subdivided into Paper II (a) and Paper II (b).

8. Punjab TET

Punjab State Teaching Eligibility Test (PSTET) is a teaching exam which is conducted by the Punjab state to recruit candidates as a teacher in government and private schools. The PSTET Exam encompasses 2 parts.

One is the lower primary TET which is for the candidates who want to teach students from classes I to V. Second is the upper primary TET which is for the candidates who want to teach students from classes VI to VIII. 

Once the candidates qualify for the exam, they can teach the school students. After the result declaration, if the candidate qualifies for the exam or just touches the cut-off marks, a certificate will be provided to the candidate by the Punjab State Board. After that, candidates can apply to any school in Punjab for 7 years as the scorecard provided to them will be valid for 7 years.

9. Uttarakhand Teacher Eligibility Test

UTET is the abbreviated form of “Uttarakhand Teacher Eligibility Test”. This teaching exam is organized for the post of teachers in the primary and upper primary levels. The Uttarakhand TET Exam is conducted at the State level.

To apply for the UTET Exam, applicants should have a B. Ed. degree from a recognized university in India. The candidate must pass the intermediate exams with a minimum of 50% marks.

Uttarakhand Board of Secondary Education is an authorized organization that has the authority to organize the UTET Exam for recruiting Teachers in Uttarakhand State.

It is responsible for activating the link for viewing the UTET result. Its headquarter is in Nainital and more than 10,000 schools are affiliated with it. The foundation of Uttarakhand Board of Secondary Education was established on 09 February 1996, Declaration No. 4460 / 15-7-1 (231)/1995.

Currently, Mr. Rakesh Kumar Kunwar is the Chairman of the Uttarakhand Board. He is working since 1-12-2014. Dr. Nita Tiwari is presently working as Secretary at Uttarakhand Vidyalaya Education Council, Ramnagar, Nainital. UTET Exam-qualified candidates will be eligible to recruit as a teacher in Uttarakhand state only.

10. Tamil Nadu Teacher Eligibility Test (TNTET)

Tamil Nadu Teacher’s Eligibility Test (TNTET) is a teaching exam which is organized by the Teacher’s Recruitment Board (TRB) of Tamil Nadu. This teaching exam is organized to recruit teachers for the government and private schools of Tamil Nadu.

The TNTET Exam is of 2 levels. The first level is for classes I to V and the second class level is for classes VI to VIII. All the details regarding this teaching exam will be uploaded on the official website of the board.   

Candidates can apply for the TNTET Exam once the board releases the date. The result will provide a scorecard that will be valid for 7 years. That means a candidate can apply to various schools in Tamil Nadu for up to 7 years.

11. Bihar TET

The Bihar School Examination Board (BSEB) invites application forms for screening eligible candidates through Bihar Teacher Eligibility Test (Bihar TET). The candidates who are eligible and interested and want to become successful teachers or they want to pursue their career as a teacher must apply before the due dates.

It is very important to note that the candidates are having a domicile certificate of the Bihar State as it is a teaching exam that is State Level. Candidates should be aware of the eligibility criteria before she/he submit the application form.

The BTET Exam consists of two papers which are Paper-I and Paper II. Paper I is for the candidates who want to teach students of classes I to V whereas Paper II is for the students who want to teach students from classes VI to VIII.

12. Assam TET

The Assam Teacher Eligibility Test (ATET) is the teacher eligibility exam which is a teaching exam at the state level. Assam TET Exam is conducted by the Department of School Education. This exam is also known as Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA).

This teaching exam is conducted to recruit candidates as a teacher in any government and private schools in Assam to teach lower primary and upper primary class students.

The lower primary category includes classes from class I to V while the upper primary category includes VI, VII, and VIII classes. This teaching exam appoints candidates for the post of Assistant Teacher, Associate Teacher, Sanskrit Teacher, Hindi Teacher, and Classical Teacher in all the government, and semi-government schools in Assam.

13. Himachal Pradesh Teacher Eligibility Test (HPTET)

The Himachal Pradesh Teacher Eligibility Test (HPTET) is conducted by the Himachal Pradesh Board of Secondary Education. HPTET Exam is a teaching exam at the state level. The purpose of this teaching exam is to recruit skilled teachers for both Private and Government schools in Himachal Pradesh.

This teaching exam is conducted twice a year. First, the exam is conducted in the month of June and the second is conducted in the month of November. By qualifying for the HPTET Exam, candidates can become eligible for TGT, JBT, and LT posts. 

The HPTET Exam result will be declared in January. The candidates who have given this teaching exam can go to the official website and fill in all the credentials required to open the result.

After providing the required data, candidates can view, download and print their results. The HPTET Exam is held in various centers in Himachal Pradesh. All the details will be given on the admit card of the candidates.

14. Kerala TET (KTET)

The application process to apply for the Kerala Teacher Eligibility Test (K-TET) is in the month of January. The official authority of the Kerala Government Education Board (KGEB) had started inviting the Online KTET Registration Form. The authority also releases this teaching exam Admit Card at ktet.kerala.gov.in its official website.

This teaching exam conducting authority Pareekshabhavan Kerala conducts the KTET Exam twice a year i.e. in February and November to shortlist the candidates for the position of Lower Primary Teacher, Upper Primary Teacher, and High School Teacher in Kerala.

15. Tripura TET

Tripura Teacher’s Eligibility Test (TET) Exam is a teaching exam which is conducted by the Teachers Recruitment Board, Tripura (TRBT) to recruit teachers for the schools in Tripura. This exam encompasses 2 papers - Paper I and Paper II.

Tripura TET Exam Paper I is only for the candidates who want to teach students from classes I to V. Tripura TET Exam Paper II is for the candidates who want to teach students from classes VI to VIII. 

After qualifying for the Tripura TET Exam, aspirants are eligible to get a certificate that will be valid for seven years. Tripura TET Exam is provisional in nature which means it does not make a way to get jobs in any school in Tripura.

Aspirants will be offered the job based on their score in the Tripura TET Exam, only if there is a vacancy in the school, and then they will call the candidate for the further selection process.

16. Mizoram TET

Mizoram Teacher Eligibility Test MTET is conducted by the Mizoram Board of School Education. This teaching exam is organized to check the eligibility of candidates at the primary level and upper primary level. The MBSE is established by the govt of Mizoram and approved by the Govt of India. The primary aim is to establish school education across the Mizoram state.

17. CGTET

Chattisgarh Government has opened a great opportunity for Candidates who want to become teachers in primary and upper primary schools of the State. Interested candidates can apply for this teaching exam by visiting the official website of the Chattisgarh Board.

This teaching exam, i.e., CG TET Exam for Class I-V and Class VI-VIII will be conducted separately. Candidates can also apply for both lower primary schools and upper primary schools.

The state government of Chattisgarh releases the notification of this teaching exam CG TET Exam.  Chattisgarh Professional Examination Board (CPEB) conducts the CG TET Exam every year to select eligible candidates as a teacher in Lower Primary (Class I-V), Upper Primary (Class VI-VIII) schools in Government and Private managed Schools in Chattisgarh State. 18. Madhya Pradesh Teacher Eligibility Test (MPTET)

Madhya Pradesh Professional Examination Board (MPPEB) releases the MPPEB TET Exam notification for Primary Teachers and for Secondary Teachers on its official website- peb.mp.gov.in. The registration process for MP TET Exam starts in the month of January.

All the candidates who wish to make their career in teaching profile as a Primary Teacher and a Secondary Teacher in Madhya Pradesh can fill out this teaching exam application form. Candidates who are interested to apply for the post of Primary and Secondary Teacher in Madhya Pradesh can register themselves on the official website of the board.

The MP TET Exam is conducted in the month of April. The Madhya Pradesh Board conduct two papers for the selection of the candidates:

  • Paper 1 - For Primary Level Teachers from (class 1 to 5th teachers)
  • Paper 2 - For Secondary Level Teachers from (class 6 to 8th teachers)

Qualified candidates will get the eligibility certificate which will be valid for a period of 7 years. Candidates can appear in any of the respective papers. If any candidate wants to appear for both exams can apply for the same.

CBSE UGC NET, CSIR UGC NET, UGC NET

University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET) is a teaching exam at the national level. This teaching exam is conducted in order to select candidates for Assistant Professor or both Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) and Assistant Professor in Indian universities and colleges.

Till June 2018, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) conducted the NET exam on the behalf of UGC. Though, from December 2018 onwards, the UGC NET exam is conducted by National Testing Agency (NTA).

CSIR UGC NET (commonly called CSIR NET) is a teaching exam at the national level. This teaching exam is conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) to select candidates for the award of Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) and to appoint lecturers in Indian universities and colleges. Candidates qualifying for the CSIR NET exam can become lecturers in the subject areas that fall under the faculty of Science & Technology only.

KVS TGT PGT PRT

Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan, KVS releases the Notification for Teachers Recruitment on its official website. KVS is a teaching exam. Candidates who are eligible for teaching can apply online on the official website of the board, i.e., kvsangathan.nic.in for various posts of Post Graduate Teachers (PGTs), Trained Graduate Teachers (TGTs), and Primary Teacher (PRT).

KVS has near about 5949 vacancies for various teaching posts so this is a great opportunity for all job seekers. Aspirants who have completed their Graduation or Post-Graduation have a great chance to apply for the KVS TGT, PGT, and PRT Exam and become good teachers in KVS.

The application form for the teaching exam (KVS TGT, PGT, PRT) can be filled out online mode only. No other mode apart from this will be accepted. The KVS application form fee has to be paid through a debit or credit card or by using the net banking process.

There are several age criteria set in order to appear for the KVS TGT, PGT, and PRT Exam:

  • For TGT Post - Maximum Age Limit is 40 years
  • For PGT Post - The maximum Age Limit is 35 years
  • For PRT Post - Maximum Age Limit is 45 years

KVS includes 3 types of Teachers:
