There is another way to become S.P, in CBI, SI can be promoted to S.P and D.I.G as a promotion. Since the last two options are usually straightforward, we will concentrate on the first two options.
Civil Services is the first option that students opt for after their graduation. Although it is very difficult to crack, students start preparing for it in their Bachelor's studies. Students usually tend to study for long hours and practice tons of papers each week and day.
You can either join any coaching classes, which make sure a student passes all three stages of the CSE by UPSC, namely Prelims, Main, and the interviews. They will not be S.P yet. You will be promoted to ASP (Assistant Superintendent of Police) in two years, After that, depending on your cadre or performance and your profile, you will be promoted to the post of S.P.
