A combined three-stage competitive examination (comprising five tests), called the Engineering Services Examination (ESE), is conducted by the UPSC for recruitment to the Indian Engineering Services.
The UPSC (Union Public Service Commission) has released the notification for ESE ( Engineering Services Examination ) on its official website upsc.gov.in. on September 26, 2025. The online registration process will commence from September 27, 2025, to October 22, 2025. ESE is considered the toughest exam in INDIA due to its selection ratio of approx 0.00275 based on recent statistics.
Engineering Services Examination generally known as ESE is conducted every year by UPSC to recruit engineers in four domains i.e. Civil, Mechanical, Electrical and Electronics & Telecommunications for the Techno – Managerial posts. After the final selection of these candidates, they are posted in various Ministries and Departments of GoI ( Govt of India ) such as Railways, Telecom, Border Roads, CPWD, CWC, CPES, NHAI, Naval Armaments, IDSE, MES, Ordnance Factories, etc. The candidates can advance to any cadre, organization, agency, department, ministry or PSU of the Government of India. All these final selected candidates are designated as class-1 officers.
