Paper I, General Awareness and English Language:

  • English Language and Comprehension: 50 objective questions
  • Marking scheme: One point for each correct answer.
  • Negative marking: Each wrong response will result in a 0.33 (?) deduction.
  • Total marks: 150.
  • Time Duration: 2:00 hours (120 minutes).

Paper II: General Intelligence, Reasoning, and Mental Ability:

  • Number of Questions: 200 objective-type questions
  • Marking scheme: One point for each correct answer.
  • Negative marking: Negative marking is deducted for each wrong answer. 
  • Total marks: 200
  • Time Duration: 2:30 hours (150 minutes).

Sections:

  • General Intelligence
  • Reasoning and Mental Ability

Paper III: English/Hindi-Descriptive Paper 

  • Number of questions: Not applicable (Descriptive paper)
  • Marking Scheme: Evaluation of essays, precis, and letters/applications.
  • Total score: 150 Time Duration: 2:00 hours (120 minutes).
  • Sections include essay, precis, and letter/application writing.

Selection Process

The selection procedure for the positions of ASO and SO comprises several steps, which are as follows.

  • Section Officer (Gen, F&A, S&P):
  • Paper - I and II
  • Paper III: Interview with Assistant Section Officer (Gen/F&A/S&P)
  • Paper I and II Paper III CPT

Salary Details

The CSIR 2026 salary structure is thought to be quite profitable. Section Officers would be paid between Rs. 47,600 and Rs. 1,51,100. The pay scale for the position of Assistant Section Officer will be Rs. 44,900-1,42,400.

Section Officer Group B (Gazetted) Pay Level – 8, Cell – 1 (Rs. 47,600 –Rs. 1,51,100)
Assistant Section Officer Group B (Non-Gazetted) Pay Level – 7, Cell – 1 (Rs. 44,900 –1,42,400)
