In Maharashtra, nearly 74 private colleges and 21 government-aided colleges provide admission for the B.Sc. (Hons.) Agriculture course through the MHT CET examination. Students should appear for the CET examination to secure admission in B.Sc. (Hons.) Agriculture and also secure a better ranking. About the B.Sc. Agriculture Course

It is an undergraduate degree studied for four years to learn about agriculture and its applications. Different streams in this category include plant pathology, agronomy, soil science, agronomy, forestry, veterinary science, etc. In this course, the student studies agriculture practises, and it is a research-oriented course.

It deals with various agricultural concepts such as agricultural microbiology, plant breeding, genetics, plant pathology, etc. The course is recognised by the Government of India and covers different modern techniques to be implemented in agriculture. This course is divided into eight semesters.

In the first semester, the students study basic subjects such as science, humanities, plant biochemistry, rural sociology, comprehension, communication skills, etc. Later, they study advanced subjects of agriculture such as extension methodologies, agricultural microbiology, soil microbiology, agricultural statistics, etc.

In the last semester, the students even studied advanced subjects like agronomy, practical crop production, horticulture, cultivation, seed production, the use of technologies in farming, etc. The students are not restricted to classroom lessons but also go on field trips, attend lab sessions, and undergo practical training.

Eligibility to Study the Course

Students aspiring to study this course should complete 10+2 in the stream of science. Their main subjects in 12th grade should be chemistry, biology, and physics. They should score a minimum of 50% to become qualified to study the course.

The students should appear for an entrance exam in B.Sc. Agriculture and should also appear for an interview. The candidates studying this course are expected to become professionals and implement effective practises in the field of agriculture.

Different states conduct different types of entrance tests. Some entrance tests conducted to secure admission in B.Sc. agriculture are SAAT, CUET, ICAR, PAT, etc. If you are living in Maharashtra, then you should appear for the MHT CET examination. In colleges such as the College of Agriculture, Pune, and the College of Agriculture, Akola, the cut-off marks are 119.5 for students in the general category. For OBC students or EWS, it is less than general, i.e., 118.5 and 118, respectively. For SC students, it is 115.5, whereas for ST students, it is 104.

The cutoff score for colleges like Rajshri Shahu Maharaj College of Agriculture, Kolhapur, is 117, and the College of Agriculture, Beed, is 117.5. They are providing further concessions for OBC, EWS, and SC and ST students. The College of Agriculture, Beed, expects the lowest score from ST people, i.e., 70. Most of the colleges provide concessions to ST students. In the College of Agriculture, Dapoli, the minimum cutoff marks for ST students are 99 or higher.

In the College of Agriculture, the minimum cutoff is just 89+. In most of the government colleges, the cutoff marks for ST students are below 100. The Anand Niketan College of Agriculture, Warora, provides admission to students with marks of 108 or higher. The College of Agriculture in Akluj provides admission to students with a minimum score of 75.51. For SC, ST, and EWS students, most of the agricultural colleges are providing concessions.
