How are Indian Engineering Students Different from American Engineering Students

Have you ever noticed the rush in the field of engineering? With the changing trend of education and work sector, engineering knowledge is considered as one of the best technical and professional education for the students. Some prefer cracking IITs and the other complete it through international universities. Every common man of our nation says that “Pelt a stone at the crowd and 90% chances are that it’ll hit an engineer!” Yes, that is sounding funny but it is actually alarming at the same time. With various surveys conducted across the nation, engineering is one of the most popular and wanted streams in India currently.

How are Indian Engineering Students Different from American Engineering Students

India is known as one of the leading producers of the greatest engineers who bring tons of pride to our nation. The youngsters of India are full of inspiration and motivation to showcase their house of talent at global levels. However, these young and aspiring engineers are facing some common obstacles in targeting their engineering goal because of various inevitable factors. As a subsequence, Indian students are heading to foreign countries to seek a higher education of engineering. Experts on the other end believe that completing engineering from abroad is a good decision. In fact, if you notice, Indian engineering students are totally different from American engineering students. The article discusses the same scenario based on various points so that you can clearly understand the difference between Indian engineering and foreign engineering.

Academics and Learning:

The academics pattern followed in most of the engineering colleges in India and outside is the primary difference. The curriculum in Indian engineering colleges is a common theory based containing less of practical knowledge. Emphasis is done over theoretical subjects credits rather than on experimental practice. While in engineering colleges of foreign countries less emphasis is made on theories and more importance is paid on practical learning. The focus on practice ignites the creative minds of the youngsters.

Race and Competition:

Competition exists in all the streams in India but it touches a new milestone in the context of engineering. Unlike other streams, engineering covers a cut-throat race every year forcing a million students to either drop for an IIT or compromise their talent by admitting themselves to low-grade engineering colleges. But in foreign countries, there is no such competition in engineering, it has a scope same as other streams.

Selection Criteria:

IITs in India are the epitome of engineering education and getting a seat in IIT is not an easy play. With very limited seats, only some students get selected to IIT by their extremely hard work, degrees of patience and continuous determination. Once a student manages to become ‘eligible’, he/she has to go through the rage of ‘reservation’. Meanwhile, in foreign countries, there is no such kind of reservation in educational institutions. Students are selected based on their performance in aptitude tests and various technical rounds.

Purpose of Internships:

In India, field training and industrial visits are completed on a formality basis by both students and faculty members. Engineering institutions focus on conducting these summer training and practices for the students as a part of their checklist. While in foreign engineering colleges, internships are designed as a primary part of the education structure ensuring that the students are getting the optimum exposure of their relevant industry.

A goal of Engineering Colleges:

Knocking the extreme competition levels and demand for engineering studies, private groups have laid down a large number of private engineering colleges for the students in India. Seeking admission in these small engineering colleges is no big deal to accomplish for the students. These private institutions have been opened on a massive scale so students can easily enroll themselves to a B.Tech or B.Sc programme but actually, the quality of education is so low that the students are tagged as "unfit to work in the reputed firm" by the MNCs during the campus drives. While in the case of foreign engineering institutions, the focus is to prepare the students as global players who can work in any esteemed organization and diverse working scenarios.

Summary

With the emerging trends of engineering, education patterns are also changing in India. Though this revolution is taking a long time, the process is giving us world-class engineers. Students who don't have much time in their hands have higher engineering goals. Subsequently, to complete their dream of becoming world-class engineers, most career-oriented students have to opt engineering degree from a reputed engineering college at abroad where they get a chance to learn field practicalities. This benefits them in saving their time and making them perfectly eligible to get hired for high paid jobs at MNCs throughout the world.

Regardless of the engineering goals, you have like targeting studies at IIT or bigger dream to go abroad and study engineering from a reputed institution, it is important to focus at every level for reaching quality education standards.
