The counsellor helps an individual to overcome the problems and deals with problems for the betterment of the individual. 

It is mainly meant for the treatment of the individual who suffers from mental issues. Counselling helps an individual in feeling, thinking, and behaving in real-life situations.

In counselling, the problem of an individual is discussed and understood by the counsellor so that he/she can give professional advice to the individual from overcoming the psychological issue that he/she is suffering. Counselling can be done as social counselling, education counselling, wedding counselling, etc. A counsellor performs and gives professional advice based on different circumstances. 

An individual has to be open up in front of the counsellor for discussing the problem so the counsellor will be able to deal with it instantly and help the individual with alleviating his life. Counselling is non-judgemental, goal-based process, that set viable goals, and develops strategies to solve the psychological problem of the individual.

Counselling sessions can go for so long and can be completed in the short term that is based on the cases and their problems. In the counselling session, the information is confidential between the counsellor and the client. Information is not disclosed to any third person, information access is between the individual and counsellor.

  • Nature of guidance is preventive and counselling nature is curative, healing, and remedial. 
  • Guidance helps an individual to choose the best alternative option for solving the problem. Counselling helps an individual to change their perspective and try to solve the problem by themself. 
  • Guidance is given on education and career-related issue and counselling are given on psychological and personal issue. 
  • Guidance involves the external approach and follows the comprehensive process. Counselling involves the internal analysis of the problem.
  • Guidance can be given by an experienced person in a specified field and counselling is given by the counsellor who has done professional training.
  • Guidance is not confidential it is quite open to discussing the problem and in counselling, all the information is set to be confidential. 
  • Guidance is given to an individual as well as a group of people at the same time. Counselling is given to only one individual at a time and counselling is one-to-one. 
  • In guidance, decisions are taken by the experienced person “the guide” and in counselling, the counsellor motivates and empowers the individual to decide on his own.
