Full Form of CBSE, ICSE, UP, and SSC Board:

The education level in India is governed by some of the Central boards and State boards of education. They lay down the foundations and the course curriculum for the schools imparting education from the primary till the senior secondary level.

The Indian educational system has four levels unlike the United States, which has a three-level school system. The school system in India is:

  • Lower Primary (Age 6 to 10)
  • Upper Primary (Age 11 to 12)
  • High (Age 13 to 15)
  • Higher Secondary (Age 16 to 18)

The lower primary is divided into five standards or classes, (class 1 to 5). The upper primary is divided into two standards or classes (class 6 to 7). The higher secondary is divided into three standards or classes (classes 8 to 10) and the higher secondary is divided into two standards or classes (class 11 and 12).

The students generally learn a common curriculum in all the schools except for the change in language-based subjects which change according to the region the school is situated in.

There are mainly three streams in the school education system in India. Two of these are managed at the National level such as the CBSE and the ICSE.
