Which is better 2 years or 3 years MCA Course - Best MCA Colleges in India

2 years or 3 years MCA Course:

MCA or Masters in Computer Applications is a comprehensive postgraduate course in the field of computers and IT computer applications, etc. There are two ways to study or rather gain admission into an MCA Course. It is usually for 3 years, and can also be completed in 2 years by students who gain admission through lateral entry. But the question is what is the difference between 2 years or 3 years MCA Course and Which is better 2 years or 3 years MCA Course

Students who have pursued a Bachelor in Science course, then the students need to complete MCA in 3 years. For students, who have completed BCA, can complete MCA in two years through gaining admission via lateral entry. Both these types of courses have no difference between them whatsoever and are the same in terms of quality and degree value.

MCA Course and its duration may vary from State to State and even city to city. In Mumbai, for example, the universities have canceled lateral entry options altogether, forcing the students to study MCA Course for three years itself. However, now that has changed as well. Whereas, some universities, like IGNOU and colleges affiliated to AICTE, have the option for lateral entry, where students having an academic background from similar courses can gain admission in the second year, thus making MCA a two-year course for some students.

Lateral entry is becoming increasingly popular due to its time efficiency and one year less.

Why 2 years or 3 Years MCA Course?

This trend of fixing or changing the MCA Course duration has changed throughout the years. The three years MCA Course was started in the 1990s to meet the demands of the fast-growing IT industry and its demand for computer application experts to fulfill their job positions.

The need for IT professionals was so dire that the companies and top recruiters of IT firms recruited B.Tech Course, B.Sc. (Computer Science), and even BCA Course graduates. Despite that, the demand for IT experts was not met. Keeping in view the shortage of expert professionals, MCA was introduced to allow students from any computer science stream, arts, or even commerce graduates to sign up to learn the basics of coding and computer applications and hence, to switch into an MCA course in the first year. The students could then move up to an advanced level of skills and knowledge set in higher courses or years.

But now in the last five to six years, the demand for IT professionals and experts is lower due to so many passports and a boom in the supply of experts. Due to this, the students have stopped taking admission in the first year of MCA from BSc. Physics and other science streams.

In current times, MCA has been the chosen degree option for students from computer science backgrounds, and hence these students do not usually need the first year of introductory syllabus and lectures. Due to this, the students made pleas and teachers saw the wastage of resources, and hence, the government conducting body AICTE collaborating with the UGC Grant Commission, reduced the duration of the MCA Course from three years to two years, getting rid of the introductory course year (first year) altogether.
